Women's Issues Therapists in Zeeland, MI
I enjoy working with women during different life transitions, from pre-teen girls to women aging and growing into themselves during menopause. Often my clients are parents navigating an autism diagnosis of their child, youth struggling with executive functioning or school stress, late-diagnosed autistic women, or helping professionals (such as teachers, nurses)facing burnout, and adoptive families adjusting to complex dynamics. They often feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or exhausted from masking and over-functioning. They want practical tools, clarity, confidence, stronger relationships, relief, and to know they are not broken.

Currently accepting new clients for Thursdays - morning and afternoons available. "You don't have to be fearless. Doing it afraid is just as brave" (Morgan Harper Nichols). Reaching out for help and starting therapy can be a little scary. I would love to create a safe place for you to realize you can be scared and brave at the same time. I love to empower clients and help them to realize that they can do hard things, make changes, and find hope for the future, no matter how risky that hope feels. I am passionate about helping clients name what matters to them and build a life that reflects what matters most to them.

Integrative, connected, holistic, and person-centered are just some of the words that I would use to describe my therapeutic approach with my clients. I believe that your body, mind, and spirit are all connected and play a crucial role in your healing journey, and understanding this connection can encourage you to thrive and heal on a deeper level. I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, an evidence-based approach designed to address and resolve trauma. This modality focuses on identifying the underlying sources of distress and alleviating the emotional and physiological triggers associated with traumatic experience.

If you're waiting to "feel better" before you start living your life, you may end up waiting far too long. Healing rarely happens before we begin moving forward-it often happens while were already living through the hard parts. My approach is simple: you don't have to wait until the anxiety is gone, the fear is quiet, ore everything feels figured out to start creating a meaningful life.
I work with teens and adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, disconnected, or emotionally exhausted. My style is warm, supportive, honest and direct.

Unhelpful thoughts, unwise choices, honest mistakes, unforeseen change, traumatic pasts… Life will include very difficult circumstances. You may question your ability to change, lack clarity about which direction to go, and doubt whether you deserve something better. Men and women, individuals and couples, have worked with me to: 1) change their understanding of who they are, 2) achieve freedom from unhealthy sexual desires and behaviors, 3) develop a plan to build the life they want, 4) gain clarity about what they want, and 5) repair or reinvigorate their marriage.

Together we’ll clarify your values and build action steps so you can live with greater purpose, intentional focus, and balance.

Ready for something different? Feeling a bit "meh" about how things are going? It is totally normal to hit those seasons of high stress and low patience. You might feel a little more snappy than usual, or just completely burnt out by life’s curveballs. Even when you are putting in the work, that "stuck" feeling is real. Maybe home is great but work is draining—or the other way around. → Let's change the narrative. ←

Therapy can be a way to work through difficult life situations, manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, or other conditions, or a way to explore new avenues of coping. I believe counseling works best when both the therapist and the client are actively involved in the process. I believe therapy should be catered to the individual and the client should be seen as a whole person rather than broken apart into their symptoms.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
