Therapists in Ypsilanti, MI
My ideal clients are high-performing individuals—including athletes, professionals, students, and military members—who appear strong on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or burned out. Many come in struggling with anxiety, sleep issues, performance pressure, or unresolved trauma. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, CBT-I, and trauma-informed therapies to help clients build practical skills, improve resilience, and regain control. My approach is collaborative, structured, and focused on helping clients not just cope, but perform and feel better in their daily lives.

What's most important to me is co-creating a space over time with clients where they feel safe to be vulnerable, and especially where they feel safe to push back. I seek to foster a therapeutic relationship where I can be a support person, and where I am also understood a just a regular person. What that means to me is that I acknowledge the necessary responsibility of my position, but that my word is not the end all be all of what is right or good because I'm the therapist; that I'm responsive when someone says "that didn't sit right with me" and that above all the autonomy of clients is my priority.

Hiya! My name is Tyler (they/them) and I'm a therapist at Integrative Empowerment Group (IEG). IEG is a collective of providers who share a vision of affirming diversity, empowering individual expression, and promoting integrative mental, emotional, and personal growth. Our therapists are engaged in continuous consideration of how multiple oppressions (sexism, racism, heterosexism, classism, ableism, sizeism, etc) in the current societal and historical context may be contributing to distress. We are unapologetically anti-racist and liberation-centered in our approach.

Have you been feeling unheard? Have you felt that others have been quick to label your distress, but not support your healing? Creating and holding space for folks to feel safe in, share, be authentic, be vulnerable, and heal is something I have felt called to do throughout my life. I am an adamant believer that individuals are the experts on their own experience, and view therapy as a partnership on a journey toward healing, for which an affirming and non-pathologizing space is essential.

My work as a therapist is finding the treasure that I know is inside of you. I realize that your “gem” is often there, but covered up by years of bad habits, unfortunate events, or mental health issues beyond your control. I believe that you have your own answers to your problems and I am here to help you clarify and find those answers. I take a person-centered approach. I may challenge you, but do so with compassion and understanding that life is a journey with bumps in the road for all of us.

I work with people who want to better understand themselves, heal at their own pace, and improve their emotional well-being. Many of my clients feel stuck in repeating patterns, experience anxiety that shows up in the body, struggle with sleep or self-criticism, or feel unseen and misunderstood in their relationships. I also support individuals navigating life transitions, cultural identity, code-switching, and the complexity of holding multiple identities.
