I am currently accepting clients online and in-person at my Ypsilanti location.
Wanna cozy up by the lake, get into your body, and heal trauma? Me too. Somatic therapy isn't something I discovered after becoming a therapist, it is THE reason I became a therapist and has sculpted my training and learning experiences since the moment I began my education. As a deeply relational bodymind therapist, my commitment is to create a safe container in which you can move through the veil of any past wounding and shame into vibrant aliveness, seeing the world through your birthright: attachment security, confidence and self-love, the ability to give and receive love, and a sense of belonging in the universe.

Talk therapy serves a valuable purpose by aiding your brain in processing challenging emotions during specific moments in your life and enabling introspection regarding associated thoughts. However, what if you find yourself trapped in the depressive, anxious, angry, or shameful mental state for so long that you have nothing new to explore? What if, despite recounting your traumatic experiences numerous times, your low energy, sadness, avoidance, anger, or impulsivity still persists? And what if the somatic reactions triggered by certain events are so intense and rapid that you are unable to employ sound judgment?

Hi my name is Aaron. I'm a 2013 graduate of Touro College, School of Social Work, NY, NY. I have found that school taught me the names of things in life, but life taught me those things. So much of my time is spent connecting with people, which I am energized by. I am a student of my experiences and try to learn how to live my life better from almost everyone I encounter. I primarily assist men in becoming congruent to improve their relationships because men have an inner power and goodness that I can support to help them connect with their families and better the communities they live in.

I offer therapy sessions in-person or online via video.
My goal is to assist you in recognizing your inherent strengths that have been developed as a result of your unique experiences. Everyone comes to this moment with their own set of beliefs, values, morals, and expectations. You are stronger than you think. You are more capable than you think. Oftentimes individuals, couples, and families may not recognize their own resilience and their ability to break toxic cycles that may exist within relationships. Sometimes experiences can overwhelm us, and make us feel that we don’t know the way forward. The process of therapy is turning those overwhelming feelings into a road map.

Change may not be easy, however, you don't have to take part in that journey alone. I work with kids, teens, adults, and parents seeking change. Suffering is a normal part of being a human, and human suffering can affect relationships, work, parenting, communication, ability to care for oneself, and more. Learning skills to help with emotions, increase motivation, and stress management can make a world of difference in your life. I would be honored to take part in that journey with you! Not currently accepting adult clients for trauma treatment.

I see folks online and in-person (Ypsilanti) on weekdays (M-F).
Spring is here and now is a great time to put that renewed energy into building emotional resourcing and preparing for future darkness. I approach therapy from the perspective that our emotional struggles are a reasonable response to what is happening around us - and these times are dark and difficult. Maybe you feel like you're in a fog, shut down, vibrating, irritable, or unable to rest. However reasonable, our stress impacts our quality of life and our relationships. Therapy is a time set aside to safely explore difficult memories, emotions, fears, and patterns and what you'd like to see change in your life (inside and out).

Have you ever found yourself unable to feel better, despite past attempts to think your way out and move forward? Like a cycle you can't escape? Is it sometimes hard to "human"- to socialize, get yourself to focus, to navigate sensory overwhelm, or even to communicate to others? Maybe you've seen therapists in the past who seemed to be puzzled by you or not on your wavelength so you felt stuck. Are you looking to get to the root of these challenges and heal them for good instead of chronically coping just to get by? Do you need to make a change, but don't want to simply talk about your feelings? The good news is everyone can heal.

My work as a therapist is finding the treasure that I know is inside of you. I realize that your “gem” is often there, but covered up by years of bad habits, unfortunate events, or mental health issues beyond your control. I believe that you have your own answers to your problems and I am here to help you clarify and find those answers. I take a person-centered approach. I may challenge you, but do so with compassion and understanding that life is a journey with bumps in the road for all of us.

I am passionate about working collaboratively with a diverse population of individuals through a social justice, anti-colonial, and anti-capitalist lens. I have experience with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, grief, sexual and gender identity, child behavioral issues, social anxiety, and couples issues. As a bi-lingual (English & Arabic) woman of Middle Eastern background, I understand the challenge multiple layers of identity has on mental health. Using a culturally sensitive approach, I enjoy working with underrepresented minorities, especially those who identify with the LGBTQ+ community.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
