Feeling eager to open up to a complete stranger, vocalizing all of your deepest, most intimate struggles and challenges? Probably not the first choice that comes to mind, but you are not alone. Many of my clients have arrived with similar reservations while facing issues such as depression, anxiety, grief/loss, interpersonal relationships, life adjustments, work conflicts and career exploration. My approach is two-fold, with the first focusing on the interaction between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. The second is to explore how your environment,
family
, school or social setting influenced your worldly view and actions.

Child, adolescent and

issues are at the heart of my practice.
When we feel stuck, trapped or insecure about our life, it can be hard to be motivated for change. Whether it is a relationship, a job, or simply just not knowing what to do with the thoughts that come into your head, there is empowerment within yourself for change. You may have recognized that your coping strategies have led to destructive patterns in your life. However, this is not the end for you, but a beginning to rewriting your story and your pathway to your best life. Let’s work together toward a plan with action steps that will empower you to create productive coping strategies that will accomplish your life's goals.

I have over 15 yrs of experience treating children, adolescents, and adults for various issues, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse,
family
issues, anger, and inattention / impulsivity.
These days, it's understandable to have difficulties with isolation, and having "nothing to do." But are those "difficulties" interfering with your ability to function? Is it preventing you from working as efficiently as you normally do? Have you had difficulty getting or staying motivated? Are you having an issue concentrating or focusing on a task? Parents, are you struggling to keep up with your child's educational performance while managing your own job? Are you having trouble in other areas of life (e.g., alcohol, cannabis)? Are you angry / irritable? If you answered yes to any of the above, then maybe I can help.

All of us have issues or experiences that can be difficult to manage at times. I work with you to help you find solutions that improve your quality of life. If you have suffered trauma, this means finding some understanding of the trauma and resolving lingering effects. Parents get help in parent management techniques and learn behavior management. For those with addictions, this means working to understand the cause of the addiction. For the elderly, this means completing a life review and understanding the current situation.

Hello! In my clinical practice, I provide a nurturing, non-judgmental environment in which the client feels comfortable and safe to work through personal issues and/or relationship challenges. Therapy is a collaborative journey in which both the client and the therapist work together to uncover past core issues and present triggers that are sustaining emotional distress. Together, we will work to increase self awareness and emotional understanding so that you (the client) feel empowered to identify and to make positive, healthy and effective changes that promote emotional health, happiness, and personal growth.

I am a fully licensed psychologist in the State of Michigan. Working with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and students, I specialize in employing concepts of cognitive and behavioral therapy and mindfulness to help individuals manage a variety of mental and emotional issues, including Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, ADHD, Anger, and Behavioral Disorders. Through our work together, my patients learn to be more aware of their thoughts, identify their negative automatic thoughts, and reframe their thoughts such that they are more realistic and positive. Over time, this change in thinking has significant implications for the daily feelings that one experiences.

Part of our journey through life involves challenges, setbacks, and crossroads. Sometimes, these come in the form of normal life transitions. Other times, it can be in the form of the unpredictable: trauma, loss, cancer. No matter what your current circumstance is, know this: there is hope. You WILL rise again-better and stronger than before and through this rising you will find peace, acceptance and personal growth. You will learn to turn your wishes into outcomes. You have already taken the first step. I look forward to helping you to continue on your path to healing.

***Currently--Not Able to Accept New Clients*** Finding the right counselor/therapist is a challenge. Making a decision to call when there are so many choices can be overwhelming. It is an important decision because the relationship you have with your counselor is one of the most important factors in achieving a positive outcome in therapy. The right counselor will be someone you feel you can trust. The right counselor will help you identify the roadblocks that keep you from moving forward. The right counselor will be with you as you take those steps forward from where you are, to where you want to be.

Generally, each person and I begin by exploring the issues that has brought them to seek out my services. This exploration entails a joint effort that unfolds over time. A relationship is formed that helps us both to see more clearly how the individual is operating in their everyday life. It is through such an exploration that the individual begins to understand themselves, and, especially, their more intimate relating. I also believe that the person leads the treatment such that we will only go as far as each person desires. I can offer ideas, but, in the end, it is the individual who leads us.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
