I am a Trauma, (PTSD) and
OCD
therapist with over 35 years of experience treating adults. I am passionate in my resolve to help my patients end their suffering from trauma, anxiety and
OCD
. Often times, these individuals have worked diligently in other types of therapy without achieving symptom relief. In my experience and according to current research, it appears that unresolved memories of trauma, neglect, emotional and/or physical abuse, contribute to underlying causes for chronic depression, emotional or physical pain. I take pride on being up to date on the current mind-body focus on overall wellness

Just “one last time,” you say to yourself. You have been telling yourself this same lie for years, hoping and praying that this time it will be true. Resisting the urge to check feels so impossible, but it seems like your only option is to give in. The
OCD
tells you that if you do the ritual just one more time, the anxiety will go away. Although you know logically that your fears are irrational, you cannot stop them, and feelings of panic and dread take over your mind. You crave just a moment of freedom from the grips of the obsession.

Seems there's always another way to tone and nourish our bodies. Yet our minds - well, they don't often get the same dedicated attention. Our thoughts swirl. Our emotions wind into mashups of who-knows-what. And in case anyone's been stuck in a cave, the world is a virtual buffet of fuel for anxiety and panic du jour. It's hard to keep up. So how do we ease the angst, reset the stress level, and tone our minds so that even amid an unpredictable, stress-inducing world, we are steadier, calmer, more centered, and more resilient? And yes actually, we can be and feel ok even when it feels like everything around us is a bit crazy.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
