Life is... busy. It can be challenging sometimes, especially when the day-to-day feels more like managing and barely getting by than living. Whatever you are going through, there is a way forward. A better way, truth, and life; sometimes we just need a little help getting there. Whatever your goals are, whatever your current state in life, I will do my best help you become more free to be that person that you were made to be. If you feel you are in need of a little help (or a lot), please don't hesitate to reach out!

My work consists of providing a welcoming, profoundly non-judgmental atmosphere where one can experience the safety that human relationships may offer. I truly believe people first need the basics. We connect and flourish in therapy when provided with acceptance, respect and dignity in a non-shaming relationship. I take a holistic approach and incorporate foundational needs that are often overlooked. Sometimes the simplest solution may be most effective, while other situations may call for a deeper dive that will uncover a path to healing. Regardless, I leave the direction and pacing up to my clients to preserve autonomy.

Therapy can provide an amazing opportunity to find much-needed support, better pursue your goals, or even learn more about yourself and your own needs. While this process can seem overwhelming, you are not alone. In my office, whether in person or virtual, you will find a place that is accepting, non-judgmental, and collaborative. The process of working together on your health and goals is extremely important. This means that you will not be a passive participant in our sessions, rather, you will be encouraged to participate actively. While I am trained and certified to practice therapy, you are the expert in your own life.

We all find ourselves in spots that are less than ideal from time to time. A relationship that brought us safety, joy and fulfillment in the past now turns us into an anxious and distracted mess. We feel our body giving way to time and it scares us. Or perhaps we have found that the way the world always seemed may not truly be the way it is and we are left with more questions than we have answers for. Whatever the specifics, we all need a place to breath, collect ourselves and reassess our trajectory, especially when it comes to our relationships and our inner worlds.

I believe in a Client-centered, Cognitive-Behavioral approach with an emphasis on personal responsibility, accountability, and ownership of problem solving to bring about personal change. I specifically use the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model. The goal of ACT is acceptance of what is out of personal control, and a commitment to action for life improvement and enrichment. Additionally, mindfulness training including meditation, relaxation, and guided imagery can be used for therapeutic intervention.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
