Mental Health Challenges and
Trauma
can change every aspect of our life and we may wonder will there EVER be a "normal" life for ME again? The answer is YES! Although things will be different, with commitment and the willingness to move THROUGH the challenges, there is LIFE & HEALING. Mental Health and
Trauma
are both taboo words in our society and are often stigmatized by our families, our friends, and most unfortunately even by ourselves. Although an estimated 26% of Americans ages 18 and up -- 1 in 4 adults--live with a diagnosable mental health issue in a given year. YES, you read that correctly; 1 in 4 adults!

Extensive training in Bioenergetic Analysis and
trauma
allows me to understand thoroughly what's happening for you.
I am trained in body-based, or mind/body, psychotherapy. I don't work with any one piece of a person, single incident, or symptom of a diagnosis. I see the whole person, within the context of their past and present life, and target the root cause of the "dis-ease" they are experiencing. I believe therapy is not only about feeling better, but finding choice, control, and a grounded sense of your Self. You are more than any diagnosis, you are a person who moves through life in your own unique way. This therapy is specialized to meet your individual needs. And you don't have to figure out what you need alone.

Nothing feels more powerless than watching your teen shut down from
trauma
, social isolation and bullying, and use self-harm or aggression as a relief from pain. Young people don't always know how to express what they're feeling with words. Often their behaviors tell the story of how they feel. When those behaviors are stemming from inner conflict and pain, it's not just acting out - it's cry for help. We need to identify the root cause... and help them get on the right track so they start using their feelings as a guide, and navigating their emotional system toward self-love, self-worth and true confidence from the inside out.

As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and a Certified EMDR Specialist, I offer counseling to individuals who struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, sex/porn addiction, unresolved
trauma
and those wanting to work on their relationships on an individual and/or couple basis. Therapy would not only focus is not only on the root causes of the issues because going back to the root cause and where our issues originated removes the power it has on us, but reducing the affects that it has on us in the present day so that we can move forward in our lives.

I am a certified EMDR therapist, and my niche is in
trauma and PTSD
.
Do you feel your past shaped the way you see yourself and other people? Do you ever wonder if those experiences contributed to the way you're living your life today? Has it impacted your relationships? Do you feel stuck? Do you feel on edge? When we have distressing life experiences or
trauma
, it is common to feel irritable, sad, and disconnected. It is also normal to be hyperalert and have trouble sleeping. These stressful experiences blocks the body's natural way of healing itself. EMDR therapy among other therapies can help you to unlock the healing process and feel like yourself again.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
