The decision to start therapy can be one of the hardest to make, but together we can build a secure and safe space without judgment to start your emotional healing process. A space filled with self-reflection and compassion. I have 10 years of experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and the elderly within a variety of mental health settings. I strive to help you find a better understanding of who you are based on all that you’ve been through in the past/present, and work with you to replace unhealthy patterns of behavior and improve coping skills to achieve a better quality of life.

Placements in wilderness therapy, therapeutic boarding schools and specialized treatment centers are the focus of my work. As a therapeutic educational consultant and placement specialist, I spend a significant amount of time traveling to visit and assess programs including wilderness therapy, therapeutic boarding schools, and young adult college/transition programs. I specialize in performing comprehensive placement evaluations and providing recommendations for the best treatment options including local and residential options. I welcome complicated cases that have not responded to the best of outpatient treatment strategies.

Nothing feels more powerless than watching your teen shut down from trauma, social isolation and bullying. Young people don't always know how to express what they're feeling with words. Often their behaviors tell the story of how they feel. And when those behaviors are stemming from inner pain and conflict, they appear more like acting out. We need to redirect from the root cause... and help our children to get on the right track so they start using their feelings as a guide to navigating their emotional system toward self-love, self-worth and true confidence from the inside out.

Each of us holds the power to choose the manner in which we give meaning to our life circumstances and experiences. Earlier automatic and unconscious patterns often get in the way of moving forward in an empowering and liberating way. Identifying these patterns, learning the practice of self-reflection and gaining self-awareness is the foundation of personal growth and transformation. In addition, focusing on the present moment, the practice of mindfulness, learning to trust the inner voice and emotional responsiveness leads each client to a more conscious place of being. Moving forward with conscious choice and courage is the key.

Childhood, adolescence, and adulthood are filled with so many different experiences, with everyone’s being unique. Some may come across smaller obstacles throughout their lifetime, whereas others may encounter obstacles that seem too big to overcome on their own. These obstacles that we encounter can come in many different forms, but it is when we cannot overcome them on our own that psychotherapy can equip us with skills to help.

Intervention Therapists
How does an intervention work?
An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.
How effective are interventions?
There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.
What are the limitations of interventions?
While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.
Are there alternatives to interventions?
Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
