I have experience working with individuals with mental health issues and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Facing obstacles in life is inevitable, but who says we have to face them alone? I aim to create a space where you are able to share your story and talk through different ways to help alleviate your issues, stress, triggers, fears, and insecurities, and work through them collaboratively. I feel that it is important for both the patient and the therapist to build a healthy therapeutic relationship. I practice with a strengths-based approach, to highlight your strengths as a means for healing. I utilize psychodynamic, CBT, mindfulness, and trauma informed modalities.

I have extensive experience working with adults and youth involved in the foster care system, dealing with challenges related to abuse , loss, anger management, substance use, as well as communication and parenting issues.
Life presents all of us with challenges and difficulties. Some are obvious, some less so. Sometimes we only know that we're struggling without being able to put our finger on why that is. I don't believe you need all the answers to start your journey to overcome the obstacles that you face. The starting point is the desire to improve your relationships, family, and career. Therapy provides a supportive environment where you can learn to cope with existing distress and learn to address the needs that will help increase the quality of your life and relationships.

Anxiety, depression and anger, work or relationship troubles, grief and loss, abuse and sexual identity concerns are some of the many common issues I help people navigate on a daily basis.
I have found that people tend to seek therapy when they are experiencing some kind of stressful situation in their life. You may have found that you keep repeating bad patterns or that you feel stuck in your relationships or your job and you don't know what to do to get unstuck. We all need to find someone we can feel safe sharing our deepest concerns with and we want to feel understood. Whether the work is brief, or more long-term, I am passionate about helping you to develop behavior changes that will lead to healing and eventually to you fulfilling your potential.

You may find that life is not how you imagined, or how you would like it to be. Often when we have experienced difficulties in our lives, they stick around and make it hard for us to move on, whether in relationship, jobs, or in our emotional well-being. As a therapist, I offer an accepting and non-judgmental setting where, together, we can work to address depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, communication difficulties, job performance, and any other part of your life where you want improvement. Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
