My background in brain science and clinical practice allows me to approach mental health holistically. My approach is rooted in individualized care and a deep respect for each person’s unique story.

I was drawn to working with children and youth at Common Ground Sanctuary.
I went on to pursue my education in school social work and have gained experience working with children in both school and therapeutic settings. Through these experiences, I realized my passion was in providing more individualized support and therapeutic interventions to help children build confidence, develop coping skills, and navigate life’s challenges.

Hello, my name is Candice! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am a relational therapist, which means that I believe that the most important part of therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. When you come to see me, you enter an inclusive and safe space that is free from prejudice and judgement. As a queer neurodivergent woman, I believe that it is important to show up as my authentic self and hope you can do the same in my office. Therapy looks different for everyone and I don't believe in a cookie-cutter style of counseling.

Being human is challenging at every stage of life. From our earliest years through adulthood, we all navigate big feelings, challenges, transitions, and the experiences that shape who we are. My ideal clients are highly sensitive children, caring adults, and families seeking a deeper understanding of emotions, behaviors, and relationships. They often come to my practice when feelings become overwhelming or past experiences are influencing the present. I provide a warm, supportive space where clients can explore their inner worlds through attachment-based care, emotional skill-building, and inner child work.

Has a change in your life thrown you for a loop? Do you suddenly feel as if you don’t know yourself or aren’t sure where to go next? Perhaps you expected to be happy about the change, but instead it’s left you scared and disappointed. I’ve worked with people dealing with breakups, grief, or adjusting to postpartum life. These and other big transitions can become overwhelming, especially without the right support to work through the experience. The good news is that you can feel like yourself again, if not better than before. You can begin a new journey to discover what you really want and create a plan to get there.

I work particularly well with adolescents (Ages 12+) and welcome the opportunity to work with adults as well.
I believe that each one of us has what it takes to make life what we want, but that sometimes we just need a little guidance in moving things along. Maybe we have something to say, but don't know how to say it. Maybe we're feeling things we can't quite understand just yet. Maybe we want to improve or change our relationships with people but just don't know how to go about it. Or maybe we just want to learn how to feel better about ourselves and move through life more confidently. Whatever needs are present, I know therapy can help.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
