A trusting relationship is the most important part of working with a counselor. When we feel heard, understood and empathized with, we can begin to self-reflect and grow. It is a part of the human experience to suffer, struggle and be challenged! It is through relationship with others that our stories can be witnessed and healing can occur.

It's easy to start thinking we can never be happy again. My goal is helping you find your capacity for meaningful change. Having the support system of a therapist is a powerful tool. My approach is direct and engaging (and it is okay for us to use humor). I work with adults and am an active participant in the session. Life transitions can really throw us, and it is not because we are weak, it is because we are normal. I will help you use adversity to become resilient. Immediate Openings for adult Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Hi, I’m Dawn. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified in Complementary Medicine and Wellness, Registered Yoga Teacher, Self-Image Coach, international speaker, and three-time co-author on the power of speaking your truth. I’m passionate about helping you step into your most radiant, authentic self. This may be the most rewarding work you do for yourself. Yes, there will be challenges, but also breakthroughs and plenty of wins to celebrate. Growth often comes through the work and the challenges that shape us into who we’re meant to be.

Perhaps you are at a crossroads in life and are struggling to find your path. You are a perfectionist with high achieving tendencies however, feel unable to calm your anxiety, depression, or negative self-talk. Your successes are undermined by a voice in your head stating, “I don’t think I’m good enough or I don’t have anything left to give.” You have successfully navigated many of life’s difficult decisions yet, your self-esteem and confidence are holding you back.

If you are looking for a therapist, you may be feeling hurt, lost, or stuck and aren't quite sure what will help. When our most important connections are ruptured through stress, trauma, and broken relationships, life becomes overwhelming, unmanageable and isolated. Finding a therapist who will listen with intention and compassion can help you feel understood and more connected to yourself and your world. I use a relational-style focused on increasing your awareness and insight so that you feel empowered to move forward.

Hello, I am a Grand Valley State University graduate and when it came to choosing a profession it was easy as I was born a Clinical Social Worker. Over the years I have worked with individuals and families that have experienced substance abuse, socioeconomic concerns, domestic violence, sexual assault, physical, emotional abuse/neglect. Oakley, The Certified Therapy Goldendoodle, has been working side by side with me since he was 9 weeks. With the help of his professional dog trainer he has made great progress. Oakley loves meeting new people and believes everyone is his new best friend.

I am passionate about preparing my clients for life—both inside the home and in the world around them. Being human is hard, especially being a tiny human in a world that feels immediate and absolute, uncertain and disruptive, and full of distractions. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, difficulty connecting with peers, or simply the brave and complicated work of being human, I provide a space where they can feel seen, supported, and equipped with tools that actually help.

Welcome! I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology and my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan. My work has largely focused on supporting older adults and their caregivers, which has deepened my understanding of how grief often intersects with complex family dynamics. In therapy, I provide a safe and supportive space where we can explore your experiences, coping strategies, and relationship patterns. Together, we’ll work toward greater self-awareness, clearer communication of your needs, and healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

We can get stuck in unhealthy relational patterns with ourselves and others that impact our mood and sense of self. We fear disconnection, rejection, and loneliness. What we desire is to be heard, known, and valued by others. What I hope to provide is a space and partner to acknowledge and express our needs, understand our roles, set boundaries with others, and feel safe and secure in ourselves. Together we can foster a deeper understanding of yourself and provide tools to help cope with life's challenges.

Friends and family notice you’re distant and irritable. Something needs to change. I can help you look at the roots of your pain and help you feel better.

My background is in science, education, and art. I believe in the power of creativity and communication to solve complex problems. Sometimes we just need a teammate to help us process what we're going through and make a plan for moving forward. I see individual adults with a variety of mental health concerns like panic disorder, grief, and depression.

Many clients who work with me feel that their romantic, family, or career relationships have left them drained, overfunctioning, and out of touch with who they really are. This imbalance often leads to symptoms and behaviors that cause additional layers of distress, and to undervaluing their own emotional lives. I also see many clients with high sensitivity, deep empathy, and an extended capacity for care that can leave them feeling different or disconnected. Their goals for therapy are to feel more authentic in their relationships, more at ease in their bodies, and more at peace in the world around them.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
