As an MA, LPC, I help individuals explore their thoughts, feelings and behavior to reach a more clear self-understanding and change long-standing patterns of behavior that may be disrupting relationships, work and study. The nonjudgemental and accepting nature of clinical mental health counseling makes it possible to face painful experiences. My client utilizes their capacity to change, seeking mental clarity, presence and balance. As a professional counselor I will work within clearly contracted, ethical boundaries, with respect for my clients, their values, their beliefs, their culture, to explore and resolve life difficulties.

Please note that as of 9/15/24, I have closed my OH office and no longer provide in person meetings in OH. I currently reside in Michigan. However, I continue to maintain my OH Counselor license and offer online teletherapy to clients that I have previously met with in person in Ohio. Each person enters therapy with one's unique personality and life situation. My aim is to develop as clear an understanding as I can of your experience and concerns that have brought you to therapy. I draw from a variety of techniques in working with clients. One of the ways I work with clients is for clients to bring dreams to sessions.

I have special interest in working with men, couples, chronic insomnia, and people struggling with OCD.
When we're faced with adversity, we have two choices: to do nothing and hope that things improve on their own or to engage the problem and transform it. My approach to counseling is focused first on listening and then on helping my clients understand themselves and their ultimate concerns in a deeper way so that they can live fuller, happier lives. My practice uses evidence based treatments and is results oriented. Visit the outcomes tab on my website for more information on my clinical outcomes.

As a behaviorist, I believe that the environments in which we develop ultimately play the most significant role in our actions, decisions, and outcomes. Without the proper space for growth, healing, and self-development, one may face difficulties in achieving self-realization and self-actualization. Human-beings are social creatures – genetically designed, behaviorally conditioned, and evolutionarily driven. We possess certain intrinsic, natural needs and adaptations that have developed over millions of years. If these dualistically basic and complex needs remain unfulfilled, we will struggle to attain this self-actualization.

Our world is a busy and complicated place full of impersonal demands and unrealistic expectations. We need the opportunity to pause and take a look at what we truly want for ourselves and whether our energy and gifts are being used in pursuit of our purpose and passions. Counseling offers an opportunity for self-examination, along with the chance to expand coping skills, develop personal strengths, and solidify and repair relationships.

We are living in a very trying time that can make us feel isolated, fearful and uncertain of the future. We may be experiencing emotions we have never felt before and don't quite know why or how to cope. Seeking therapy is not an all or nothing process, sometimes it is just needing someone to touch base with to help work through feelings or thoughts in a safe and non-judgmental space. Through exploration we can uncover barriers & work toward a healthier quality of life. Through discussion and reflection we become empowered to reconnect with our inner voice to help us feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
