I specialize in providing therapy services to those coping with medical illness, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, relationship issues, and substance use concerns.
Hopelessness, grief, and worry are some of the most common but uncomfortable emotions that we experience at some point in our lives. These feelings can accompany new or familiar stressors and can impact health and wellbeing, relationships, work or school performance, or just feeling like yourself. Therapy can be a safe space to help you overcome these feelings, find peace and healing, and regain the motivation and joy you once had in your life.

My specialty areas include depression, anxiety , mild substance use disorders, life transitions, and relationship problems.
As of 12/5/22 my practice is currently CLOSED for new clients. Sometimes life throws us unexpected curve balls that are difficult to manage. Other times, we may find ourselves struggling to manage day to day life even without any major life changes. Therapy can be an important tool for helping us manage both unexpected events as well as the stresses of daily life.

Are you dealing with depression, anxiety or stress? Life is full of change and transitions and can easily cause us to feel overwhelmed, anxious or depressed. Being unable to understand or control our thoughts and feelings often leads to difficult or challenging experiences that can be hard to navigate. Therapy is a way to honor these experiences and hold space for self-reflection and understanding. Finding the right therapist can be overwhelming, especially if you are already feeling emotionally drained. My approach is to help you identify your goals and meet you with compassion and empathy.

Since 1977 I"ve worked as a therapist with Individuals,Couples and Families. I have found that people usually come to therapy because of some pattern of internal pain or difficulties within their relationships or daily lives. Often this pain involves feelings of: anxiety , sadness or depression, loneliness, grief, stress, frustration or anger, as well as behaviors that at times are ineffective, self-sabatoging or addictive in nature. I work in a respectful, confidential, compassionate, and collaborative way. I am professional, very direct and honest, while honoring your feelings and values.

Welcome. I work with adolescents and adults that are struggling to manage difficult emotions - anxiety , sadness, anger, disappointment, envy, loneliness, and grief. Navigating what a full life has to offer can be tricky; going off to college, blended families, parenting concerns, relationship problems, divorce, loss, multicultural issues can leave us feeling lost and alone. Together, we work in an empathic and safe space to explore the twists and turns of your unique experiences. Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
