Not accepting new clients: I gravitate to "working outside the box" with individuals, groups, couples , and families whose lives have been negatively impacted by trauma. I have focused on women and men who were physically, emotionally or sexually abused as children or individuals traumatized as adults. Treating veterans and/or active duty military personnel who have served in war zones is of special interest to me. I have seen first hand the difficulty so many of them have reintegrating into their families and into civilian life. I find a tremendous amount of fulfillment and joy walking with them on their journey back into life.

Oh the healing power of therapy! I feel passionate that everyone has a unique life story, and that some of life's chapters deserve a closer look to bring about improved coping, healing, and positive change. My approach is eclectic and trauma informed. I draw upon reality theory and the study of behaviors and neurocognitive development. I use CBT, mindfulness, and other practices as appropriate. The goals of therapy and the techniques used are based on each client's individual needs. I am proud to be working with community agencies, corrections and families for over 15 years.

Everyone deserves a sense of control over their lives. When terrible things happen it can feel like the wind has been knocked out of you. The world feels unsafe. Feelings of deep sadness, fear, shame and a rawness seem to linger. Many people feel as though they are damaged goods and wonder if they will ever be themselves again, or if they will ever be happy again. Imagine what it will be like when you have more good days then bad, when you feel the laughter, when you hear your child start to sing again. In a relaxed, safe environment you will receive support, encouragement, and the skills you need to thrive not just survive.

Harvard Avenue Counseling Services mission is to provide high end virtual counseling services. Online counseling should not be a manufactured service provided by a corporation that sees clients and counselors as numbers to provide profits to shareholders. Harvard Avenue Counseling Services is a small scale high end counseling practice. Our clients and counselors are our main focus and not just a number. I decided to open Harvard Avenue Counseling Services because I saw a huge need for a high quality virtual counseling service that was able to provide personalized care.

Relationships can be confusing and painful when conflicts are not worked out in a way that is mutually satisfying. If you find that what you've experienced or are currently experiencing is beyond the average differences in personality and opinion, a new perspective can provide a fresh way forward. Small changes in how You see things and choose to respond can make a big change in the relationship .

Grief, anxiety*, panic disorder*, depression, marriage issues, relationship issues, OCD*, chronic illness, trauma*, PTSD*, compulsive behaviors*, compulsive thoughts*, life changing events, job related stress and goal setting are dealt with in a confidential environment.
We are all unique, but the truth is, all of us face challenges and difficulties at different points in our lives. Some difficulties are painful and yet other difficulties seem more "chronic" and "just get in the way of us being the best we can be". Whatever the case is for you, my goal is to partner with you, listen to you, and work together to identify the best strategies and concrete tools for you, to get you where you want to be.

Sometimes life can be overwhelming, and it can be difficult to manage the stress and trials that come. Our experiences can leave us feeling overwhelmed, alone, or unsure where to turn. When we feel stuck or scared, we can act in ways we question, lose track of what we value, or begin to feel unworthy of those around us. This can impact the way we interact with others and show up in our day to day lives. Through the counseling relationship you can learn to explore more about yourself, process your experiences and emotions, begin to heal, and take charge of the life you want to live.

When in session I often refer to the “team,” which can be my client, a two- partner couple, a polycule, a family unit, or whomever we find to be the best working definition for the word.
Having experience in two sides of the counseling field thus far, my history includes working in a jail and substance use rehab with addiction struggles, heightened mental health diagnoses, and high-severity felony offenders, as well as alternatively having experience in education and foster settings with Pre-K through 12th grade school-age children and adolescents. Additionally, my focus is on working with LGBTQ+ individuals and families. This is to say, I work to ensure a judgment-free environment, and the achievement of success for a client as they define it.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
