Even though one of my passions is working with college aged individuals, my ideal client is any adult looking to work on and better themselves. When you are open and honest about needing help and playing an active role in your mental health journey that is when real progress can occur. Anxiety, depression, life transitions and relationship issues are my areas of specialty. Anyone dealing with these issues can feel very alone and misunderstood. But they don't have to, because that is where therapy comes into play. Being validated, heard, and supported through these difficult times can make the biggest impact they may need.

I am curious, creative, and sincere in my approach to therapy and goal setting. I have worked with clients with depression, anxiety, identity development, gender identity and sexual orientation, building healthy self-esteem, healthy communication and conflict in relationships, stress management, anger issues, parenting concerns, and other mental health concerns. My background and training originate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and prioritizing client self-determination.

Physical and mental health can suffer. Prior to entering the counseling field, I was a nurse for 25 years. My background in nursing combined with counseling allow me the unique ability to provide guidance in navigating the complex system of healthcare, and the perspective to assist clients in effectively coping with life's painful experiences.

Due to my variety of professional and relatable life experiences I value the privilege to work collaboratively with children, adolescents and adults to attain successful outcomes in areas of life transitions, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, anger management, and domestic violence. Meeting the client where they are at is an excellent starting point within the all-important therapeutic alliance.

Chad B. Cubberly received his Master of Social Work degree from Eastern Michigan University with a Concentration in Mental Health and Chemical Dependency. Chad believes that talking with a therapist or counselor can help you deal with thoughts, behaviors, symptoms, stresses, goals, past experiences and other areas that can promote your recovery. Chad understands that talking with a therapist about personal issues can be difficult but knows it can help people to address problems they may be experiencing in their lives. It can also offer an emotional release and a sense of really being heard, understood and supported.

I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University, NY, and possess a licensure from the State of Michigan. With a seven-year tenure as an Army medic, inclusive of a combat deployment in Afghanistan, my post-military commitment aligns with a nuanced understanding of trauma. I bring over a decade of specialized experience in managing cases involving traumatic brain injuries, complemented by a significant role as a board member for the Brain Injury Association of Michigan.
