I am a fully licensed Couple and
Family Therapist
with postmaster's training and ten-plus years of full-time experience in the crucible.
Relationship problems tend to bring self-doubt, loneliness, and sadness. You (and your partner or spouse) may feel alone, but in therapy you are not alone. You can talk with someone who listens instead of giving advice. Therapists listen closely to your complaints - to your discomfort, hurt, or confusion - while supporting the core values you cherish. We will join your quest to save the marriage (relationship), and have seen success with others, but there are no guarantees. Counseling can help people see themselves in a new way. Solutions tend to show up as you explore problems in a safe place (safe but also challenging).

I believe we all have the ability to live happy, fulfilling and purpose-driven lives. Sometimes relationship problems, grief, past trauma or just our own misconceptions about ourselves can contribute to our unhappiness. We may be compassionate with our friends and
family
, but not so much with ourself. I believe the role of a therapist is to help guide the client with objective and empathetic listening and non-judgmental suggestions. Sometimes you may need a reality check, and other times all you may need is a reinforcing message that you are on the right track with your thoughts, beliefs and actions.

Have you found yourself in a place where you have followed all of the rules, done the things that you were taught to do, and found yourself in the reality of not feeling happy or fulfilled? Have you strived for the best and achieved a
family
, home, job—and yet there is still something that is not good enough? You have made the decision to begin looking into these discrepancies, and that little nudge is your inner knowing that something is off. You’re ready to listen to your needs, wants, and desires but putting them into action is daunting. I believe that by getting quiet and tapping into our inner wisdom, healing and growth occur.

When you seek help you are choosing your relationships, your friends, your
family
, your loved ones and yourselves.
Your relationship is hurting. You are hurting. You’re not happy and you’re not sure where things went wrong, but the relationship doesn’t feel like it used to. What happened to the fun, the connection, the passion, the intimacy and the love? You’ve tried to fix things, but you and the relationship need help. You’ve gone through hard and traumatic experiences in your life. You’ve tried and tried to move on, to push through – to not let it affect you, but it feels like you’re still fighting each day to not let it drag you down. You’re in the right place for hope and to point your life and your relationships in a new better direction.

Therapy is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself. Everyone has a past and carries some form of baggage with them. The issues from the past that remain unresolved impact multiple areas of our lives from our personal contentment to our interpersonal relationships. Once a client understands the underlying cause of their anxiety, depression, hurt, fears, etc., they can come to a place of acceptance and move forward minimizing the impact these issues have on the present. Our goal is to help each client find healing in order to live fully and authentically in the present.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
