My training focused on mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and ADHD.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with 20 years experience providing short-term insight-oriented therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and schema therapy. I completed my Ph.D. at Adelphi University and my internship and post-doctorate degrees at Harvard Medical School/Mass General Hospital. Currently, I am an associate professor of psychology at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I am paneled with BCBS. I use a time-limited treatment approach, that involves an assessment phase, where we characterize underlying challenges and a treatment phase where we build skills to better manage them.

I have a private practice working with individuals, couples and families. I also work extensively with teens and children. My primary focus is working with stress, anxiety disorders and depression; however, I also work with addictions, eating disorders, parenting issues and basic conflict resolution . I specialize in working with children and adults that have experienced significant life changes such as chronic illness, grief, anxiety , and adjustment concerns.
Is your family going through a major life change or stressor? Perhaps a parent or child is sick? Maybe there has been a loss, a move, or another big event? As a parent, you want so badly to support your child when they are dealing with changes, but sometimes you just don't know how. You might feel guilty, sad or frustrated that you don't know how to help. Your child may need their own space to process what is going on for them, as well as a safe space where you can work through these adjustments together. Therapy can be that space.

I have 20 years experience specializing in anxiety , panic , depression, PTSD, trauma, excessive shame/guilt, anger, and relationship issues.
I will never forget that terrible feeling that engulfed me. I was 19 years old and struggling just to catch my breath. I couldn't focus on anything but the sheer panic . I was having my first panic attack. It was a trusted therapist who came to my rescue. My therapist turned out to be a lighthouse for me when I was lost. With compassionate guidance she helped me heal and rid myself of the anxiety and panic . I valued what she did so much that it became my goal to also be that lighthouse for others who are drowning.

I also do work with adults struggling with depression, trauma, intense emotions, anxiety , grief, and recent life transitions.
Hello and thank you for visiting my profile page. My passion is helping people find and reclaim their inner strengths and abilities. All too often, therapy focuses on the negatives - i.e. what is going wrong with life. I believe it is just as important to figure out what is going right, and that is why we will work on two things: 1.) Lessening you or your child's suffering, and 2.) Building up self-esteem and self-reliance in the process.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
