“You don’t understand.” “I hate you!” “It's not fair.” Do these statements sound familiar? Children experience many physical, emotional, and social changes throughout every phase of development, which can lead to problems with anxiety, depression, anger, and strain in family or peer relationships. If you are a child who feels that no one understands what you’re going through, or a parent concerned about changes in your child’s mood and/or behavior, declining grades, or risk behaviors, I am here to help!

Psychotherapy can help. At its heart, psychotherapy is about listening. And you, feeling truly heard in a new, and refreshing way. As a therapist I strive to listen with compassion and interest to help my clients hear their own voice. Reflected, this offers possibilities for greater self understanding, change, and new direction. The therapeutic relationship serves as a catalyst for the positive changes that you as a client seek.

Throughout our existence, we all move through times that can bring an enormous amount of pain, anxiety, sadness, and even disturbance. Perhaps the days
add
up, and we end up living much of our lives in this suffering. If we hold on and search, its that deep person inside, the one just beneath the everyday routine, who can not only find the motivation to talk about these pains, but the inspiration to transform them into healing, meaning and purpose. When we take the lens and zoom in, every single one of us can find passion and vision. Joy and strength.

I specialize in treating the full spectrum of: depression & anxiety disorders, including phobias, panic disorder, generalized anxiety, PTSD,
ADD
/
ADHD
and major depression.
I believe what leads people to seek therapy is the feeling of uncertainty about life choices, the ineffective behavioral and thinking patterns that are acted on over and over again. These patterns can show up in our relationship to ourselves, in relationship with others, with substances, and in our ability to belong, be visible, feel worthy. I approach therapy with the genuine belief that all people are worthy and capable of breaking these patterns and creating healthy relationships with themselves, with others and creating an enjoyable life.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
