Adolescents and young adulthood can be a time of growth and change. It also can be a time filled with feelings of self-doubt, loneliness, and stress. You are being faced with challenges that didn't use to exist for your age group. Now more than ever adolescents and young adults ages 13 and up are experiencing increasing symptoms of anxiety, depression , low self-esteem, and difficulties with relationships. Times are not what they used to be and you deserve to be heard. Your opinions and feelings matter! You have worth and your voice is valued. If judgment from others didn't exist, what goals and dreams would you reach for?

I also frequently work with clients who are having problems with anxiety, depression , or phase-of-life problems.
I enjoy working with teens, adults, and couples on a variety of issues. I utilize a cognitive-behavioral approach to therapy where we work on identifying problems and the underlying issues. A treatment plan is developed for each client where we set goals and develop strategies to accomplish the goals. I strive to reduce symptoms, improve coping skills, increase awareness, and increase the client's feeling of control over his or her own life situation.

Welcome! My name is Kennedi Ruhlman, LMSW. I’m glad you are here, the first step of reaching can be the hardest to take. What I have learned from my experience in the mental health field is that we may be able to walk alone in our struggles, but having someone alongside us is empowering. I strive to walk alongside those that I work with, while giving you full credit in knowing that you were able to reach your full potential. Everyone’s experiences are extremely unique, and I value staying open minded and accepting to each individual I encounter.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
