I am a Trauma, (PTSD) and OCD therapist with over 35 years of experience treating adults. I am passionate in my resolve to help my patients end their suffering from trauma, anxiety and OCD . Often times, these individuals have worked diligently in other types of therapy without achieving symptom relief. In my experience and according to current research, it appears that unresolved memories of trauma, neglect, emotional and/or physical abuse, contribute to underlying causes for chronic depression, emotional or physical pain. I take pride on being up to date on the current mind-body focus on overall wellness

In a confidential, safe, and private setting, we focus on your present predicaments and stress, your family history, and the course of your problems to map effective treatments. Psychological therapy helps you begin to acknowledge and understand the sources of your emotional distress, enhance your coping strategies, and recognize the breadth of your strengths. With increased knowledge and emotional learning, you not only put your life into a more coherent perspective, but you also learn to face life-predicaments with acceptance, flexibility, courage, tolerance, and the ability to take responsibility for your actions. I refer to physician colleagues for pharmacotherapy to treat biological vulnerabilities such as major depression, bipolar disorder, OCD , and ADHD. Pharmacotherapy is sometimes an important component of effective psychological therapy.

Hello, I am so glad you stopped by! I can help ALL ages by identifying and treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD and more. I have experience working with adults, children, teens, and families to resolve conflict, address school issues, and improve behavioral concerns. I also love working with parents/caregivers to learn new ways to help their child who is struggling behaviorally or otherwise. Also, after personally experiencing the challenges associated with infertility and pregnancy loss, I’m passionate about supporting others with these life events, as I know first hand how isolating, devastating, and frustrating it can be.

The first step of course, is knowing that you or someone you love may need extra support, and that is most definitely okay! As a therapist, I strive to create the most welcoming, safe, and comfortable space for each individual. The space is yours to fill with whichever feelings, emotions, words, or silence you may need.

Most of us coast through life worrying about our destination, but we forget the journey is the most important! Your experiences can help shape your outlook for your present and future – whether for better or for worse. We are all human jigsaw puzzles in a way, where we are shaped by our experiences, relationships, struggles, and joys. And because of this, we can sometimes carry parts of ourselves and our experiences into our futures, where we may feel down, purposeless, or stuck in a spiral. I am here for you, to help guide you off the “beaten path” towards your journey to self-peace so that you can continue to grow and flourish!

Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable in unfamiliar settings can be both terrifying and exciting, depending on the situation and our own unique individual perspectives. Entering into a counseling relationship is one setting that may be frightening at first, but can be empowering just by scheduling your first appointment. I Believe there are reasons for all human behavior. Over time, unhealthy behaviors and poor communication become normal; they were learned in childhood and used to help us cope during difficult times. While these "norms" are difficult to change, awareness is often the first step toward making progress.

I take a holistic approach to counseling, evaluating the whole person from both their inner and outer characteristics. I believe both clinical and the spiritual dynamics of therapy go hand and hand, working in conjunction one with the other, it is from this idea that my therapeutic approach derives. I understand everyone may not share this idea or have this understanding, I will provide effective therapy to each case according to its uniqueness and needs. I seek to provide service with clinical professional competence, through a spirit of acceptance, empathy, compassion and respect for those I service.

Lost. Uncertain. Overwhelmed. Like a ship adrift on a vast and uncertain sea, aimless and without a clear direction in life. Maybe you’re even questioning the meaning of it all, unsure if you will ever find happiness. These feelings are painful and isolating…but know that while you may be “lost”, you are not alone. There is someone that cares about you, and things will get better.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
