My top priority is offering the safety and support you need to express the painful thoughts and feelings associated with your
loss
or stressful life transition.
Asking for help can be incredibly difficult, but I'd like to help change that. For years, my personal mission has been to bring hope to those who are hurting. Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, trapped, helpless or lost after a
loss
? Or maybe you feel anxious, angry, ashamed, stressed, or depressed while navigating a difficult life transition. You don’t have to navigate these feelings alone. I have years of experience guiding people through
grief
and
loss
through individual therapy, facilitating support groups, developing
bereavement
programs, and speaking at seminars, trainings, and events throughout Southeastern Michigan.

My mission is to help clients learn new strategies for coping with
grief
, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues and provide them with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which helps people identify their distressing thoughts and evaluate how realistic the thoughts are. Through CBT, clients can learn to change their distorted thinking. When they think more realistically, they can begin to feel better. The emphasis is also consistently on solving problems and initiating behavioral changes. My experience includes in-patient and out-patient psychiatry, community mental health, schools, and courts with a diverse range of people.

For 5 years, I've worked with clients experiencing trauma,
grief
, depression, anxiety, and various forms of abuse and neglect (sexual, physical, mental etc).
Life affects us all in a variety of ways, but it’s how we respond to those experiences that determine the type of person we are. Some of those experiences can be painful and traumatic. Truthfully, healing is painful as well, but what is most detrimental is holding on to that pain and trauma. Taking a step in your healing process takes courage. Being here on this page, shows that you’re taking that step towards internal peace and healing. Your experiences contribute to the layers of who you are, however, those layers don't have to become walls and they don't have to linger on in your everyday existence.

Your journey is too short to get stuck at bumps and trenches along the way – whether these obstacles are relationships, anxiety, depression, trauma, life changes, or
grief
.
Most of us coast through life worrying about our destination, but we forget the journey is the most important! Your experiences can help shape your outlook for your present and future – whether for better or for worse. We are all human jigsaw puzzles in a way, where we are shaped by our experiences, relationships, struggles, and joys. And because of this, we can sometimes carry parts of ourselves and our experiences into our futures, where we may feel down, purposeless, or stuck in a spiral. I am here for you, to help guide you off the “beaten path” towards your journey to self-peace so that you can continue to grow and flourish!

I work with folks managing life milestone concerns, anxiety, depression & feeling stuck, relationship & familial distress, trauma, self-esteem challenges, peer & academic related stress, identity concerns,
grief
&
loss
, ADHD, disordered eating, cancer & chronic illness, and career/occupational stress.
My approach comes with an understanding that people are multifaceted. When challenges arise, there is no cookie-cutter fix for the situation you may be facing as you are unique, and your therapy should be tailored to your needs. Talking about difficult matters can be hard, but it can be a little easier when you know you have someone you can trust to discuss them with. I come to sessions with the goal of being supportive, resourceful, authentic, and empathetic since building rapport is crucial to the therapeutic alliance.

As I think about how change occurs for a person, I am struck by the recognition that life is full of opportunities for change, for individual growth. Sometimes these opportunities are not clear to the person because the trauma, personal or relational difficulty, fear, depression, or anxiety being experienced can be so overwhelming that one's ability to take action is clouded. In my work, I have become very mindful of the resiliency of the human spirit. I have witnessed this resiliency in times of trauma, pain, and
loss
. My goal is to provide you with a safe space to address your concerns.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
