I'm passionate about working with individuals,
couples
, and families of diverse backgrounds and age groups.
Life affects us all in a variety of ways, but it’s how we respond to those experiences that determine the type of person we are. Some of those experiences can be painful and traumatic. Truthfully, healing is painful as well, but what is most detrimental is holding on to that pain and trauma. Taking a step in your healing process takes courage. Being here on this page, shows that you’re taking that step towards internal peace and healing. Your experiences contribute to the layers of who you are, however, those layers don't have to become walls and they don't have to linger on in your everyday existence.

I work with folks managing life milestone concerns, anxiety, depression & feeling stuck,
relationship
& familial distress, trauma, self-esteem challenges, peer & academic related stress, identity concerns, grief & loss, ADHD, disordered eating, cancer & chronic illness, and career/occupational stress.
My approach comes with an understanding that people are multifaceted. When challenges arise, there is no cookie-cutter fix for the situation you may be facing as you are unique, and your therapy should be tailored to your needs. Talking about difficult matters can be hard, but it can be a little easier when you know you have someone you can trust to discuss them with. I come to sessions with the goal of being supportive, resourceful, authentic, and empathetic since building rapport is crucial to the therapeutic alliance.

Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable in unfamiliar settings can be both terrifying and exciting, depending on the situation and our own unique individual perspectives. Entering into a counseling
relationship
is one setting that may be frightening at first, but can be empowering just by scheduling your first appointment. I Believe there are reasons for all human behavior. Over time, unhealthy behaviors and poor communication become normal; they were learned in childhood and used to help us cope during difficult times. While these "norms" are difficult to change, awareness is often the first step toward making progress.

My specialization is working with adults, teens,
couples
, and families struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, body image concerns, phobias, & behavioral challenges.
Starting therapy can be daunting, but you don’t have to go through it alone. My goal as a therapist is to foster a safe, non-judgmental space that allows you to gain insight into your presenting concerns and facilitates progress towards a healthy, meaningful life. Therapy is not one size fits all. I believe in an integrative collaborative counseling approach, pulling from a variety of evidence based research that tailors treatment to each individual’s preferences, values, and goals.

I provide clients a safe, non-judgmental environment in which to explore all aspects of themselves. I view therapy as a collaborative process, working together to promote self awareness through internal exploration. I believe that people achieve lasting change by allowing themselves to uncover and "let go" of past experiences that affect emotional reactions today. In addition to identifying internal obstacles that hinder one's success- such as anxiety, depression,
relationship
, addiction or self-esteem challenges- therapy is a tool used to foster personal growth and help with decision making.

I do a lot of work with
couples
, families and individuals.
Personal growth, more satisfying relationships and a greater sense of peace and enjoyment are areas that CAN improve with effort and where therapy CAN help. Struggling with life's challenges sometimes requires a professional point of view and therapy CAN help. I bring an interactive approach to the therapeutic
relationship
where family members, significant others are always welcome. Having a comfortable place to explore these areas in our lives where we may need to learn and practice acceptance or make personal changes is most important . This is a primary goal and one that will lead to a brighter place.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
