As a therapist, I pull from several modalities, including emotionally-focused therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, compassion-focused therapy (CFT), and the internal family systems ( IFS ) model.
I'm a mental health therapist at Wild Ferns Wellness Center in Lansing, MI. My mission as a therapist is to provide my clients a safe, affirming, accessible environment – to fall apart, to unmask, to take up space. I welcome clients of all backgrounds, but I especially love doing this work with queer, fat, and neurodivergent folks. I enjoy working with people of all ages, as well as couples and families. I center fat liberation, abolition, and social justice in all the work I do. Through everything, I seek to walk alongside my clients and help them cultivate growth and hope.

In working with individuals, couples, and families, I use an integrated approach incorporating techniques and interventions from Internal Family Systems ( IFS ), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Everyone's life is a journey and their path is their own, yet is not meant to be endured or navigated alone. I take a collaborative and compassionate approach to work with distressing experiences and being a fellow traveler as people find the resources within to help them sustain and enhance wellness.

I have basic training in Internal Family Systems and use Somatic Interventions.
We've all been through a lot. How are you feeling? Experiencing prolonged stress, trauma, disappointment or loss can have a negative impact on mood and functioning. It can affect how our brains and nervous systems function. Do you want support while you practice skills for coping, soothing your nervous system or rewiring your brain? Often therapy is a messy and sometimes painful process of feeling expression, problem solving, and learning new ideas for thinking and behavior. The work of therapy starts with receiving support, building trust and then seems to require a certain amount of courage, and resolve...ending in a better YOU!

My integrative approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems and Somatic Experiencing.
Life’s intense challenges can be overwhelming to deal with on your own. You may fear that acknowledging certain issues or feelings will overwhelm you. And many of us have learned that in order to be accepted, we must suppress our true feelings. This suppression of our real feelings, experiences, challenges may influence our behavior in unpredictable and negative ways and leave us feeling isolated, hopeless and alone. No matter what you’re feeling or facing, you are not alone and there is hope. Working with a skilled therapist leads to healing and growth.

Along with specified training for marriages, family systems , and crisis work enables me to be able to uniquely aid others in navigating the struggles of life.
I love working with struggling couples that have a desire to try to work things out, or sharing wisdom with couples that want to start things off right. If you have a desire to learn, to work, and to grow, you can accomplish what you set your mind to! While I personally approach my work from a Christian worldview, my goal is not to push this on you.

Tele-mental health therapy provides the means of reaching those who might, otherwise, never seek treatment due to reasons such as proximity, fear of being seen within the walls of a therapist's office, and/or regarding individuals' need for social distancing. I utilize a HIPPA supported tele-health platform. This allows clients to engage in secure and confidential telehealth appointments. Each can be granted access to private tele-mental health sessions while remaining inside the security and comfort of your home, or perhaps during the office lunch break. I offer limited evening appointments, even on Sunday(s) as well.

As an empathetic, deep feeling person it’s hard to put your own needs first. You feel emotionally and physically exhausted every day and want a break from your worries and stress. Managing your overthinking and regulating your feelings seems impossible and overwhelming. You experience anxiety and fatigue often and feel like you don’t fit into the world around you. Exploring and understanding the why behind your feelings would give you great relief. It feels risky to ask for help but you’re tired of feeling this way and are ready to experience life differently.

Although my clients are from all walks of life and situations, I work best when working with someone who identifies as LGBTQIA2S+, non-monogamous, on the kink/BDSM spectrum, and any overlapping identities thereof. My clients are either navigating change in their life (loss of a loved one, changing relationships, etc) or seeking to enact change in their life (reduction of mental health symptoms, building routine, etc). Along the way, they find their way to self-acceptance, self-compassion, and confidence. My clients want to build a collaborative partnership and want to build that partnership via telehealth.

Anxiety... UGH. It's like having a thousand bumblebees swirl around you at all times. The constant buzzing of unsteadiness, nervousness, fearfulness, a whirlwind of emotions that extend far beyond mere worrying. Like 80s television static, super intense bouncy balls flailing in your mind, a merry-go-round that just keeps spinning faster and faster and faster and you can’t get off. A pit in your stomach. Impossible to relax. Constant jitteriness. Sweating, racing thoughts, stomachaches, like your central nervous system is always on turbo speed. Anxiety can have you spinning rapidly in circles yet it can also be paralyzing.

What type of Lansing mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.

If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.
How to find a therapist in Lansing?
When looking to find a therapist, it is certainly important to consider training and credentials. Studies also indicate that the therapeutic alliance, or the relationship the client develops with the therapist, is an important factor in their ability to work together to achieve the client’s goals.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Understanding cost and insurance coverage is an important concern for many people. With some basic research and conversations with prospective therapists, you should be able to have a good understanding of the best way to afford therapy.
