The past shapes us, but it doesn’t have to define us. Many people carry painful or difficult experiences that may show up as anxiety, depression, challenges in relationships, substance use, or a mix of struggles. Whether you’ve faced trauma, loss, or other hardships, these experiences are part of your story—but they are not the whole story. Together, we can work to uncover your inner strengths and create a path forward. My goal is to support you in building resilience, finding purpose, and creating a future that feels meaningful and uniquely yours.

There are times when we need a little help getting through the anxiety, worry and other stressors that pull us down. The function of counseling is a journey of self-exploration, meant to increase the level of self-understanding and self-awareness. It is my job as the counselor to help foster and nurture that level of growth by creating a safe and supportive environment. People change in a variety of ways therefore I use several psychological theories to practice from.

Feeling stuck or that you don’t have control, unsure, or that you are just going through the motions at times. Or the last time you sat down and said out loud “I’m REALLY proud of myself?” Well, I am proud of you for putting you first as you begin your therapy journey. Remember you are stronger than you know, don’t be so hard on yourself! Reaching out is a true sign of strength and courage.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Therapist with several years of experience supporting individuals, children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. I have a strong background working with those impacted by the child welfare system and specialize in helping clients heal from trauma—particularly childhood trauma—which often shapes how we show up in adult life. Life presents many challenges, and sometimes we just need someone to talk to—someone to help us process, grow, and begin our healing journey. Change doesn’t happen overnight; it takes time, commitment, honesty, and courage but you don’t have to do it alone.

Throughout your life, there will be many beautiful moments, and many difficult ones that carry large emotions. For adults, these moments are difficult to navigate and process. For children and adolescents, it can feel nearly impossible. With 7 years of experience working in the mental health field with children/adolescents in various roles, I have seen firsthand the resilience, progress and growth that anyone can make when given the proper tools and supports. When given a safe space to just be where you are and feel validated and heard, there is close to nothing that you can’t endure and grow from.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
