For 17 years, I have been helping clients build upon strengths and face challenges to achieve their goals of therapy. As a licensed professional counselor I utilize the evidence based therapeutic approach of Cognitive Behavior Therapy as a basis for reducing suffering and achieving specific goals. Mindfulness and other coping techniques are incorporated to help address emotional suffering and to help tolerate environmental stressors to create a more balanced, tolerable life.
I believe counseling is a place to learn and grow. I will use techniques that encourage clients to find the solutions to their dilemmas within themselves. We have the freedom to choose what directions our life takes and the responsibility to take control of that freedom. As the counselor, I don't have the answers to clients' problems but am a guide in the process that helps the client(s) take responsibility, action, and come to a resolution. I may assign small homework that will help you learn and reach your goals. Your happiness and well-being are my main concerns.
Are you grieving? Or facing cancer, other health issues, or life after treatment? Or are you tired of feeling anxious, frustrated, overwhelmed, or stressed? Maybe you're dealing with adult child or elderly parent issues, or having relationship problems. Or maybe you long to make changes in your life but feel stuck, unable to move forward. I have training and almost 20 years of experience helping people with these and other issues. I'd like to help you find what you need to experience yourself and your life in a way that feels more centered, confident, and satisfying.
Welcome, I’m glad you are here. Deciding to make changes in your life and asking for help is a big and sometimes scary step. I am here to help you with that. We are here to explore your uniquely you story. Counseling is a journey. Like all journeys, it is unique and special. Some paths may be tougher than others. Some people may encounter some bad weather along the way. However, more often than not, the view is always worth the journey. My goal as a therapist is to walk the path with you as a guide, not as an expert. You get to determine the path; I help navigate the tough times.
We all experience stress, anxiety, frustration and other forms of emotional distress at one point or another in our lives. This distress may be caused by relationships, financial strain, loss, setbacks, or other life stressors that have us feeling stuck or overwhelmed. There are times when we are able to bounce back on our own. Then there are times when we could benefit from a little help. Seeking counseling services is not a sign of weakness, but an investment in your mental wellbeing.
Hi, my name is Dustin. I am a therapist within Kalamazoo, Michigan. I have lived exsperience with mental health issues, poverty, criminal justice, and more. My passion is to reach out to those who have been hit hard with life. I was one who was told I was an impossible case, and here I am today. I have much experience and knowledge to offer help and guidance in rough times.
I believe that although many clients have similarities, each client is different and deserves individualized intervention strategies. I can assist each client in developing their specific box of tools to address their personal issues and to meet their counseling goals. I believe that the best view of therapy is a holistic view. A hammer is an effective tool until a wrench is needed. A toolbox with many diverse tools has the best chance at repairing a multitude of concerns. I will offer evidenced based strategies as well as experimental strategies that are tied to Art & Science.
I have been working in the mental health field for over 20 years and I have worked in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, community mental health, employee assistance, and now private practice. What I love most about what I do is learning and understanding my clients' individual histories and current life situations. Therapy is not a "one size fits all" treatment plan, everyone's story is unique and their story has to be heard. My clients and I work as a team to figure out what the goals of therapy are and to try to reach those goals as best as we can. My job is to guide, not lead, a client on their journey.
I am passionate about empowering and supporting individuals and couples as they grow and change. I recognize my clients as experts on their own lives, and assist them as they learn to identify and leverage their strengths to move toward a healthier place. I have experience assisting with: anxiety, depression, issues that arise throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period, infertility & loss, parenting challenges, relationship conflict, navigating life changes, grief, attachment, non-binary, and transgender individuals. I have completed training in treating perinatal mood & anxiety disorders from Postpartum Support International.

From time to time, everyone experiences challenges related to mood and difficulty meeting goals and I am no stranger to challenges like these. Sometimes these challenges meet the criteria of depression, anxiety, or unmanageable stress, and my aim is to provide the support and evidence-based strategies to help with these issues. The best experience I can have as a therapist is to help you reach your ultimate goals and improve your quality of life. I work with adolescents and adults of all ages. My background helping adolescents in crisis and my current work experience assisting those in need find the best treatment solutions helps
I received Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University, with an emphasis on marriage and family therapy. I work with adults and families and have experience working in a psychiatric setting alongside of medical and psychiatric doctors. I have completed evidence based training in Motivational Interviewing as well as DBT for substance abuse. You are what you think, your mind will return to you exactly what you think. What is it that you want? Substance abuse & Anger management assessments.
Everyone faces challenges in life and, at times, it is helpful to have extra support to work through those challenges. It is my hope that you will reach out for that support. As a licensed social worker, I have worked in the field for 6 years, working alongside adults as they navigate anxiety, depression, mood disorders, identity and many other concerns. I firmly believe that therapy is a collaborative process between the individual and the therapist. I value shared decision making and encourage open communication.

You are not broken, you are deeply hurt. It is easy to find yourself in unhelpful patterns & ways of being. This might be due to your nervous system being flooded with anger, fear & despair. In a creative way to survive, you have found self-protection strategies. Unfortunately, these strategies are likely no longer helpful. Part of our work together will be unraveling this muscle memory to reveal how you can live a life that is true to you. YOU become the place of self-awareness, peaceful acceptance & intentional action. As a certified trauma professional & art therapist, I integrate these tools into our therapeutic work.
There is probably a lot going on in life right now, and you feel overwhelmed or at the end of your rope. Perhaps you are struggling with anxiety or depression, and you find yourself "pushing through" because that is what you have always done. Or you have suffered so long, you cannot remember what it feels like to enjoy life. Perhaps you have even tried therapy in the past but it “just didn't work for me” or “my therapist didn't understand me or how to help me.” If so, it is important to receive counseling from someone qualified and willing to work to understand your specific struggles and develop a plan to accomplish your goals.
My passion for people has led me to many different experiences working with adults and children in the states and abroad. I particularly have focused my efforts on caregiver fatigue, co-morbid disorders, youth and young adults adjusting to disabilities, social skills building, autism, temporary family separation, infertility, divorce, anxiety, depression, and most recently complicated grief and loss.
Life is a roller coaster! Throw in CoVid and life is very stressful. I am here to help you get through this thing called How do we hang on in the tough times when we feel tired and overwhelmed? I learned how to manage anxiety, depression, panic attacks, childhood sexual abuse, trauma, and grief. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside others who are looking to deal with similar issues. I models like CBT, DBT, solution-focused and trauma-informed therapy. I also love to incorporate humor and laughter into our time together. Let's talk and see if I can help.
Transformation from depression, anxiety, personal problems, grief, life transitions and other issues can be challenging. It is important to have the right support and a strong, positive relationship with your counselor. I work to provide an environment that is both safe and non-judgmental. I will help you identify the things you want to be different in your life and develop skills and a plan for reaching your desired goals.

As counselor, I see therapy for adults involving a very individual, 'person centered' approach. "I believe that every person has the internal resources they need for growth & healing, and to find their direction and progress in the therapy process." I support the client on their path to success, providing empathy, acceptance for who they are and where they are, while offering a non-judgmental orientation. I encourage the client with the freedom to explore thoughts, feelings, and life experiences in our time together.
