Kim Powers helps Christians with mental illness at the peak of their lives who are struggling with setbacks, facing barriers maintaining their health, and contemplating giving up. Inspiring them that they too can rise above and conquer their problems with courage and hope, prioritize their wellbeing, and pursue their God-given calling in educational, career, relationship, and ministry goals.
As a therapist, I believe that change happens in therapy when there is an authentic relationship that yields a safe place for people to explore and address their feelings in a non-judgmental and comfortable way. I feel I am gifted in building true connections through empathy. In my practice, I meet people where they are in life & work to ensure that client's feel valued and empowered in the therapy process. God designs people beautifully & individually. It is my desire to help each of my clients explore that within themselves and to discover the true joy that comes when we can see life in this light.
With mindfulness- and compassion-based therapy, I support clients through grief & loss, relationship issues, healing from trauma, and searching for meaning & purpose. So many of the issues that bring people to therapy are natural responses to the challenges we face as human beings. Through the process of therapy, we bring curiosity and compassion to our inner experience; and in the safety of a non-judgmental space, we explore options for understanding and growth.
What situation qualifies for counseling? My answer to that is being human. Many believe that counseling is only necessary for major life events. The truth is you do not have to be on the high end of the stress spectrum to seek professional support. Life can be hard. Counseling provides a supportive and nonjudgmental space to process all circumstances.
Therapy is a unique experience between the counselor and the client, unlocking the client's potential to be a more genuine version of themselves. People often seek out counseling services in order to gain new perspectives about a recent or past experience, to understand better where they have been, where they are standing, and where it is they want to go. No one has to ever do anything alone, there is always support; counseling offers that support through being heard, as well as exploring and practicing tools to cope with stress that is a part of life.
My years of experience in the mental health field have led me to work with people often drowned by worry, depression, and who feel hopeless about their ability to change. I work to help individuals develop skills aimed at decreasing the power of negative emotions and increasing the presence of other emotions that are often edged out, such as joy. In the words of Jon Kabat-Zinn, "You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf" therapy can help provide you with the tools you need to surf on your own through life's challenges. I have training in treating perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and emotion dysregulation disorders.
I am someone who genuinely cares for the people I work with, not just as clients, but as fellow human beings. I provide effective counseling in a safe and confidential space free of judgment. I specialize in working with Anxiety Disorders, Couples, Trauma, Grief, Sexual Addictions, and Spiritual Growth, but have extensive experience working with adults on a wide range of concerns.
I consider being a therapist a unique privilege. For someone to meet a complete stranger, feel safe enough to take risks, and disclose very personal details of one's life takes great courage and commitment to one's self. I believe in creating a safe, confidential environment free of judgment and one of trust and acceptance. My mission is to help individuals, couples, and families achieve the goals they set for themselves as they seek to be healthier, happier, and create a new life path and, perhaps, a new life story.

(Limited openings; weekends available). It can be difficult to find the right therapist. While I provide research-based psychotherapy, my approach is a bit more unique than other therapists; I implement humor and creativity, along with compassion and candidness, into each session while still meeting a client’s specific needs. My easygoing and laid back approach aligns with my target demographic of teens and young adults. Additionally, I also offer evaluations, assessments, and testing, including IQ, personality, and behavioral analysis, such as ADHD screening.
Everyone deserves to be seen, heard, understood and therapy is a great place to start. I believe therapy can help you accept yourself and begin to live a life based on who you truly are or who you want to be that is still evolving.
