Maria A. Bosnak, Licensed Social Worker (LMSW), holds a Master's degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University, with an Interpersonal Practice scope. Maria has experience working with children of all ages, teens, young adults and families. Maria has shown to be effective in developing healthy long-lasting therapeutic relationships. She has experience working with many life themes; grief, depression, anxiety, relationships, self-esteem, academics, teen pregnancy, foster care, substance use, social media, and other difficult issues that adolescents, teens, and adults face.

I help clients get to the root of their issues through the evidenced base and life approaches, be it life changes, midlife crises, or just need to get back on track. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Cognitive Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania under the supervision of Aaron Beck, M.D. in 1983. I am a Founding Fellow of the Academy for Cognitive Therapy. My primary interest and expertise is in helping people identify and break free from the negative life patterns that underlie long-standing depression, anxiety, and painful relationships. My style is systematic, focused, collaborative and flexible. I see my first task as creating a safe and stable foundation from which clients can begin to meet their core emotional needs and grow.

I specialize in treating depression and anxiety as well as serious mental illnesses with teens through older adults. Facing life transitions such as adolescence, graduating high school and college, entering the professional world, becoming a new parent, considering a career change, or entering retirement can weigh heavily on one's mind and I'm here to help. In addition to an MSW, I hold an MDiv which equips me to provide a Christian counseling experience for those desiring to have their spirituality incorporated into treatment. I look at and hear the person in front of me, seeking to understand what is said and unsaid.

I began as a life coach and became a therapist in 2017 because I wanted to help people in a deeper way. I adjust to your pace: maybe you are coming in with a concern about something that happened recently and you just want another person's insight on it; or maybe you have past trauma that you'd like to finally unhook from. With deeper work, I like to get an idea of your whole picture -- emotionally, psychologically and spiritually -- so I can help you reach whatever goal or resolve whatever issue you come in with.

My goal is to help clients achieve improved functioning as quickly as possible. I believe the most powerful transformation comes from a combination of techniques to understand and reset non-adaptive patterns, including neurofeedback, other forms of biofeedback, such as heart rate variability, emotional freedom technique (EFT), and a personality assessment I use called the Enneagram, combined with behaviorally-based counseling, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The combination of these techniques provide the foundation for holistically examining issues that stand in the way of a fuller life .

Simply put, I am passionate about helping others find growth and development that inspires continued betterment of self. My approach to counseling is developmental and holistic.
