My work focuses on the impact of sexual violence, sexual health, LGBT clients, gender identity, eating disorders,
grief
and
loss
, relationship concerns, PTSD, as well as other mental health challenges.
It is important to me that I offer a safe, respectful and confidential environment for clients as they process challenges in their lives. I believe that every individual has the ability to recognize their internal self-worth, which external factors often impede. I believe in focusing on the person as a whole, with attention to the emotional, physical, and spiritual components of wellness. I have a great deal of respect for my clients, and I recognize the strength it takes to address concerns and seek assistance. It is my goal to offer encouragement and support as clients work towards making positive changes to their lives.

At Alicia Curry LLC, we know that you want to enjoy peace in your life. The problem is that you’ve been doing it on your own for so long. You don’t think that anyone understands you, and therefore they can’t help you. This leads to isolation and overwhelm. We understand what it’s like to doubt that anyone can help you. We believe no one should ever walk through distress alone. This is why we have spent the last 18 years helping teenagers and women cope with toxic relationships,
grief
,
loss
, sexual harassment, trauma, abuse, anxiety, and depression so they can heal and have a more fulfilling life.

Starting or returning to counseling is rarely easy; it often means that you are facing a challenge that does not have a simple solution. Sharing what is on your mind may be a relief, but for many people, it is also anxiety provoking. Whether your concerns are present-focused or have roots in the past, we can create a space where you can process and grow through the obstacles you are facing. Areas in which I have special knowledge include trauma, anxiety,
grief
and
loss
, and life transitions. During sessions, you can expect me to express empathetic understanding, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness.

Counseling is a journey that is often filled with self-discovery, new awareness, and difficult choices. Telling your story can bring relief and a new way of looking at the world, and more importantly, a new way of looking at your life. Looking at where you might want to go in your life, or how you want to have better control over your emotions, behaviors, and thoughts are the challenges I’ll help you discover and manage. I have been working in the mental health and substance abuse field for almost 30 years and bring a variety of therapy techniques, expertise, and life experience to my work with clients.

With mindfulness- and compassion-based therapy, I support clients through
grief
&
loss
, relationship issues, healing from trauma, and searching for meaning & purpose. So many of the issues that bring people to therapy are natural responses to the challenges we face as human beings. Through the process of therapy, we bring curiosity and compassion to our inner experience; and in the safety of a non-judgmental space, we explore options for understanding and growth.

Personal history,trauma,abuse, familial dysfunction,
grief
,and
loss
, life transitions, self acceptance and, intergenerational complexities, are some of the general categories I hear.
My compassion for all beings began long ago and has been the cornerstone of my personal and professional life. It is the compelling reason I practice counseling. I am profoundly aware of the vast amounts of suffering we all experience throughout our lives. Experiencing and releasing this pain is the goal. I believe in the emergence of self knowledge, positive energy and right action as fear and resistance are diminished. I prefer not to label conditions and symptoms ,but strive to fully understand and appreciate the individual sitting before me.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
