At Alicia Curry LLC, we know that you want to enjoy peace in your life. The problem is that you’ve been doing it on your own for so long. You don’t think that anyone understands you, and therefore they can’t help you. This leads to isolation and overwhelm. We understand what it’s like to doubt that anyone can help you. We believe no one should ever walk through distress alone. This is why we have spent the last 18 years helping teenagers and
women
cope with toxic relationships, grief, loss, sexual harassment, trauma, abuse, anxiety, and depression so they can heal and have a more fulfilling life.

I enjoy working with clients who are LGBTQ, seniors,
women
, artists, people in the midst of divorce, those in grief & people who have experienced complex relational trauma.
You are not broken, you are deeply hurt. It is easy to find yourself in unhelpful patterns & ways of being. This might be due to your nervous system being flooded with anger, fear & despair. In a creative way to survive, you have found self-protection strategies. Unfortunately, these strategies are likely no longer helpful. Part of our work together will be unraveling this muscle memory to reveal how you can live a life that is true to you. YOU become the place of self-awareness, peaceful acceptance & intentional action. As a certified trauma professional & art therapist, I integrate these tools into our therapeutic work.

As a transgender
woman
myself, I understand the unique challenges that face not only trans* clients, but of individuals from all walks of life who are struggling.
It is my personal and professional belief that everyone is capable of discovering their most authentic and successful self, but may occasionally need assistance in their journey to personal enrichment. I have been lucky enough to find those people in my own life, and I consider it an honor to serve that purpose for my clients in a warm, welcoming, yet professional fashion. I respect the individual needs of varying cultural backgrounds, and enjoy finding common ground with varying clientele.

I have experience working with individuals experiencing anxiety and depression, individuals dealing with family pressures and relational issues, and men and
women
in active addiction and recovery.
Psychological well being is an important aspect of overall health. Counseling can be a way to work through difficult life situations, manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, or other conditions, or a way to explore new avenues of coping. I believe counseling works best when both the therapist and the client are actively involved in the process. I believe therapy should be catered to the individual and the client should be seen as a whole person rather than broken apart into their symptoms.

Life is a challenge, regardless of who you are or your place in life. While I believe that all unique individuals are capable of self-love and self-healing, I also know from over 15 years of experience working with people that we all need a little help finding our way from time to time. I am glad that my professional and personal experiences have equipped me to help a wide range of people during difficult times of change or transition, and that I am able to offer my services to those in need.

Life is complicated. From time to time, we ALL need extra support. Maybe you are experiencing anxiety or depression and aren't sure how to break the cycle. Maybe you want to heal from past trauma. One of my favorite parts of counseling is completely customizing your experience to empower you to achieve your goals.

I have array of experience with anxiety, depression, coping skills, addiction,
women
’s issues and more.
Taking steps to address your mental health can be intimidating. I understand the courage of seeking therapy and that’s why it’s my goal to create a warm and safe environment for clients. Treatment is not “one size fits all”, which is why I use a person-centered approach to meet clients where they are in their life. I utilize warmth and empathy as a tool to create a safe therapeutic environment that helps ease the difficulties of being vulnerable. While working together, we will address your reasons for entering therapy as well as improving your overall life for the long term.

Counseling can serve many different purposes--it can help us gain understanding into ourselves, gain understanding in how we navigate our world and relationships, it can help us heal from past hurts. I strive to offer a therapeutic setting where clients feel welcome and safe to process challenges in life and to gain perspective. For some clients building skills and tools can be helpful in overcoming struggles. I provide an avenue to equip clients in this way. I have been a counselor for over 30 years, and believe people are uniquely created with God given potential to live a victorious life.

My focus is treating teens through older adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, or serious mental illnesses. I enjoy walking with those facing life transitions such as moving from teen to young adult, going from college to the professional world, becoming a new parent, or entering retirement. There are so many difficult thoughts and emotions that come with these times in our lives, and I am here to help sort things out and help you feel positive about the choices you decide to make. In addition to an MSW, I hold an MDiv which equips me to incorporate spirituality into treatment if a client requests this.

My goal is to create a comfortable and safe environment where you can creatively express yourself! I focus on the whole person and use a mix of techniques including mindfulness and creative expression to address a variety of issues. We will work together to set goals and create steps to achieve those goals. Adults that I sit with typically struggle with life transitions, daily stress, trauma, parenting difficulties, depression and/or anxiety related issues. In my work with children, I incorporate caregivers and/or families into sessions regularly because I believe that caregivers play a critical role in a child's development.

As counselor, I see therapy for adults involving a very individual, 'person centered' approach. "I believe that every person has the internal resources they need for growth & healing, and to find their direction and progress in the therapy process." I support the client on their path to success, providing empathy, acceptance for who they are and where they are, while offering a non-judgmental orientation. I encourage the client with the freedom to explore thoughts, feelings, and life experiences in our time together.

(Not accepting new clients at this time. Waitlist available). It can be difficult to find the right therapist. While I provide research-based psychotherapy, my approach is a bit more unique than other therapists; I implement humor and creativity, along with compassion and candidness, into each session while still meeting a client’s specific needs. My easygoing and laid back approach aligns with my target demographic of teens and young adults. Additionally, I also offer evaluations, assessments, and testing, including IQ, personality, and behavioral analysis, such as ADHD screening.

I assist individuals and families in solving problems as they work toward recovery from addiction and other mental health conditions. I can serve as a guide, resource and source of strength for those who wish to undertake this journey. For individuals, I have an extensive background in substance use and other mental disorders and can help you work through the problems associated with those disorders. For families, I can also assist in helping parents, spouses and/or children understand what is happening to their loved one and provide coping skills for the challenges presented by the problems of the mind.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
