I also completed my practicum experience at an inpatient behavioral crisis hospital working with those struggling with a range of issues from trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, stress, interpersonal issues, anger, intellectual disabilities, and many others.
Together, we can start to address the connection between your thoughts and feelings, and how they impact the things you do that may no longer be productive to your own goals in life.

I specialize in trauma, complex trauma & enduring complex emotional & mental health challenges.
We all got stuff. Some of us are more comfortable with what we got going on, but our beliefs, attitudes & coping skills leave us vulnerable to repeating unhelpful patterns. Some of us maybe lack any comfort, but our attitudes are good-enough which helps us make sense of what's going on & cope. And sometimes some of us lack the comfort, can acknowledge our attitudes & beliefs are unhelpful as well as recognize our skills game needs some guidance & support. That's where I'd like to help. The patterns we all develop, helpful or not, happen in relationship. And I believe through relationship we can grow & change.

Accepting New Clients! I take pride in bringing healing to people who have been through trauma/stressful experiences and those who are struggling with day to day life transitions and concerns.
I know no single approach is the right one for every individual so I am trained in a range of modalities. I do however focus on a person-centered approach to create a safe therapeutic space, a genuine therapeutic relationship and unconditional positive regard for my clients.

Family trauma and relationship trauma, without a sense of safety and trust with your therapist, are difficult to negotiate to getting to positive outcomes.
After an initial getting to know you, I am keen to get to the target behaviors that are on your agenda for change. I started in the field in 1978 at a group home for elementary aged emotionally disturbed children. I went on from there to working with adolescent substance abuse, with a perspective of family systems theory.

My therapeutic orientation is person-centered, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed, but I have experience in the utilization of cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and solution-focused approach.
I am aware of the stigma surrounding therapy/mental health in the Latinx community firsthand, which was one of the deciding factors in becoming a therapist. Through therapy, we can establish goals and learn how to overcome barriers to achieve your goals. I strive to provide a safe place for you to start your healing journey. I believe we can all become better versions of ourselves. There are moments in life where you feel depressed, experience anxiety, or go through a rough patch and you need to talk with someone who will listen without judgment. These emotions are part of everyone's life experiences.

While we focus on Trauma, we offer various expertise in other needs and issues through our experienced, professional, and licensed providers.
At North Star, we believe that it is possible to find peace and be content even in difficult times. When we hold pain gently and allow ourselves to be vulnerable, our problems can pass with more ease and we can grow more authentically - we become wiser and more connected to ourselves and others. Strength isn't the absence of vulnerability or fear. Happiness isn't the absence of sadness. Safety isn't the absence of threat. Our peace can come from knowing how to be vulnerable, how to express sadness, how to navigate threat.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
