I also specialize in couples and family therapy .
The more you understand yourself and your patterns of behavior the better you can make positive change. Do you have marital issues that you are struggling with and need an honest objective opinion? Are you struggling with depression or anxiety and can’t seem to get out of the cycle? Many times it is another set of ears that is needed to help bring objectivity and clarity to an issue of life's crossroads. I also enjoy helping people understand why they keep repeating negative patterns and behaviors. Therapy can be very positive and inspire you to make changes.

I offer individual and family therapy sessions.
We all face difficult times in life but when it becomes harder to face life's challenges, depression or anxiety may be a factor. I view therapy as not only an opportunity to learn techniques to manage and cope with symptoms of depression and anxiety, but also as a journey of self exploration, awareness/understanding, and growth. While we can't change the past, we CAN heal contributing factors to depression/anxiety, such as family /relationship problems, trauma/abuse, substance abuse, codependency, and grief. My style is empathetic and supportive, providing a non-judgmental atmosphere for personal growth and change.

Good therapy can be transformative. Why is that? Neuroscience, attachment theory, and real life experience agree: all growth happens in relationships. In the safety and trust of a well-established therapeutic relationship, we can address your deepest problems and help you take control of your life. By working together to re-work relational and emotional patterns, uncover internal conflicts, deepen emotional capacities, and grieve old hurts, we can change your life. As a compassionate and experienced therapist with advanced training, I know how powerful and effective good therapy can be.

In addressing the concerns of my clients, I wish to meet them where they are and then walk with them through the journey of self-discovery and personal empowerment. Critical to this fluid equation is the cultivation of the therapeutic alliance and a sincere focus on deep, empathic listening. I apply the basic elements of mindfulness, whole person perspective, and cognitive behavioral therapy in a series of counseling sessions that aim to guide the client toward their desired goals of healing, balance, and improved inner health. The pressures of modern life can lower a shadow of despair over anyone's sense of well-being.

I offer individual and couples therapy tailored to the needs of the unique people who walk through my door. With training and interest in working with patients across the lifespan coming from diverse backgrounds, I have special interest in working with emerging adults (older teens to 30's) and couples. I work well with patients struggling with life transitions, relationship issues, anger, depression, and anxiety. As a psychologist, I've learned through my training, research, and personal experience that there is no such thing as "one-size fits all" when it comes to therapy and change.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
