Hello All. I am a former English teacher/tutor turned licensed therapist. I love listening to stories and helping people figure out their strengths, abilities and goals. I specialized in trauma while I was in school and have worked with both children and adults. I have worked with the amazing Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center in Roscommon as well as with Adult Services and the wonderful people at DHHS. My background is well rounded, and while I tend to lean toward the Marvel Universe v. DC, I can talk a mean game of basketball and enjoy Sunday football with the family. I look forward to hearing your stories and needs.

I have experience in many life issues; anger management, abuse, addictions, ADHD, depression , anxiety, PTSD, and many others.
"Learning, Healing, Growing" is my goal for your journey in life. I work from a Cognitive Behavorial Therapy system and take a mindfulness approach. I believe that our daily activities are based on our thinking processes. I like to teach hollistic approaches to dealing with life issues (deep breathing, mindfulness, meditation, etc.) and incorporating positive thinking into sessions. This works with many life issues: depression , stress/anxiety, emotional issues, grief, relationship issues, etc. I have experience with couples, helping to find communication errors and helping to relieve some of the issues that cause the space between two people grow larger.

Many individual and relational patterns are built from a complex trauma foundation. These patterns keep people cycling through behaviors, emotions, and thinking that feels familiar, however, is no longer working. This can affect people in a variety of ways, such as with a problem behavior, depression , or anxiety. Most people want some sense of control of themselves, the direction of their life, and want fulfilling relationships. The barriers to these needs being met are unique to each individual and once uncovered and understood, can be addressed and overcome.

Are you going through a significant life event or change? Or are you ready to work through past distressing memories or traumatic events? Embarking on the therapeutic journey takes courage, as well as finding the right therapist. I specialize in helping those going through significant life events and discernment, individuals who experience depression , anxiety, grief, PTSD, as well as those who identify as LGBTQIA. I prefer to view therapeutic foci through an Adaptive Information Processing Model, rather than through a pathological lens. So many presenting symptoms are actually trauma-related, and that is where healing can start.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
