Blue Shield Therapists in Holland, MI
I am in-network for Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Priority Health, and most Medicaid plans.
If you’re watching your child become more withdrawn, irritable, unmotivated, or quietly depressed, you’re not alone. And you’re not overreacting. Young men carry far more stress than they show, especially when school pressure, social anxiety, or performance expectations start stacking up. I work with adolescents and high schoolers who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or discouraged — and with college-age men who are trying to find traction, confidence, and direction again. Therapy with me is practical, steady, and supportive. We’ll reduce emotional pressure, build healthier coping strategies, and strengthen the skills toward growth.

As a therapist, I believe that the most important part of this journey is the personal relationship that's formed between clients and therapists. My clients are typically young adults who are hoping to explore their identity and values more, manage relationships, find ways to cope with and regulate their emotions, and just deal with regular day-to-day stress.

I help women heal from trauma, navigate ADHD and autism, and find support through pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, motherhood decisions, and life's major transitions so they can feel more grounded, connected, and empowered. Using EMDR, parts work, and a nervous-system-and somatic-informed approach, I support clients in feeling more connected, empowered, and grounded in their daily lives. Often my clients are the one everyone depends on. From the outside, life may look fine, but inside you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected from yourself, or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to change.

I work with clients who have been through hard or overwhelming experiences, or they’ve been carrying stress, experienced trauma or medical trauma, have had complicated relationships with loved ones, or have been dealing with a chronic illness for a long time. You might be the kind of person who keeps things going on the outside, but inside, it feels like a lot. Maybe your mind doesn’t really turn off, your body feels tense or on edge, or you notice yourself shutting down or reacting in ways you don’t fully understand. I work with adults who are trying to make sense of those patterns and feel more steady in their lives.

I work with teens and adults who are thoughtful, sensitive, and often high-functioning, but are carrying more than others can see. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, or feeling caught in patterns that are hard to change. My work is neurodivergent-affirming. This means I don’t see ADHD, autism, or other forms of neurodivergence as problems to fix, but as important parts of how you experience the world. Whether you have a diagnosis or are simply exploring, I offer a space to better understand your brain, reduce shame, and build a life that honors your needs and strengths.

Life is full of changes and challenges. Some can be overwhelming and even scary. You don't have to face it alone, we all need someone to talk to and lean on a times. Together we can work through these challenges and help you feel more confident and self compassionate.

I know personally what the the transformational journey of becoming a mom is like. It can bring some of your highest highs and lowest lows, which can feel confusing (and exhausting) at times. My own journey, along with extensive training in perinatal mental health, fuels the passion I have for working with women in this stage of life. This includes women thinking about conceiving, trying to conceive, those struggling with fertility and loss, pregnant, newly postpartum or further in their motherhood journey. If this sounds like you, I believe that you deserve specialized and intentional support and would love to meet you.

I work with women and couples. My clients are often starting to question long-held expectations about who they should be and how they should live, and are ready to make more intentional choices in their daily lives and relationships. They may be experiencing anxiety, grief or loss, self-doubt, overthinking, depression, or relationship concerns such as boundaries and communication. I also have a unique professional interest in working with individuals and couples who have been impacted by "purity culture" and have experienced religious and/or spiritual hurt.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.
How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.
What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.
Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.
What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.
What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.
Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.
Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.
Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
