With children, I treat trauma, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, grief, and behavioral disorders such as ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
I am well versed in several therapeutic techniques such as behavior modification practices, cognitive behavioral therapy, strengths-based therapy, and natural therapeutic techniques. I have also presented my work on trauma nationally and internationally which has lead to the publication of three distinguished books on anxiety, depression, trauma and panic.
Psychotherapy and counseling are most effective and long lasting when provided with compassion, understanding and hope. I believe in these values strongly. Talking about your doubts, worries and fears with a stranger can be daunting at first. When you are offered an open, responsive dialogue that is nonjudgemental, accepting and respectful this initial discomfort is replaced by a sense of emotional freedom rarely experienced before.Self acceptance and resiliency emerge and grow so that life challenges that before seemed so inhibiting are now met with confidence. I have been honored to witness and participate in these hard work miracles for over 35 years.

I've had my share of OTJ trauma/ PTSD, including being an alcoholic (sober for over 15 yrs).
Are you a First Responder, Chaplain, Pastor, active or retired; looking for a progresssive & innovative counselor to talk to who won't be disgusted by what you may say? To be able to talk about what you've seen & done without repercussions from above? Why not speak to a counselor who has over 20 years experience as a First Responder. I have been a Paramedic/Lt. Firefighter/Training Officer, 911 ECO, Reserve Deputy Sheriff, & an Armed Security Patrol Officer-FTO. Being a First Responder is rewarding, but difficult work. You're taking the first & hardest step in seeking help. I'm here to help you navigate through the rest.

My own journey has reflected much of this- in many ways I have suffered indescribable trauma; while in others I have experienced life altering joy.
I mostly come from the Psychoanalytic tradition, which places a heavy emphasis on the complexity of each individual’s mind, and how that complexity relates and connects to the individual’s story. We will work together to uncover all that exists in your unconscious mind, and reveal those areas of your life that need to be processed, and given congruence.

I work especially well with adults dealing with trauma, overwhelming emotions, and relationship patterns that feel hard to change.
You look like you’re functioning—but inside, you feel stuck in patterns you can’t break. Maybe you shut down emotionally, feel overwhelmed by your reactions, or struggle in relationships despite wanting things to be different. You might replay conversations in your head, feel either too much or completely numb, or notice the same patterns repeating no matter how hard you try. If you’ve done therapy before and it didn’t lead to lasting change, it’s often because the deeper roots of those problems weren’t fully addressed.

Do your symptoms of anxiety and unresolved trauma prevent you from being able to connect with those dearest to you?
PTSD & C- PTSD are areas I excel in: rediscover your worthiness & put the traumatic memories into the past where they belong. I may also be helpful to you if you are dealing with the aftereffects of our country's Judeo-Christian society: perfectionism, mind-body separation, internalized oppression, grind-culture, & shame.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
