If you're someone others rely on a high-achieving professional, a caregiver, or both you may find yourself quietly running on empty. Words like overwhelmed, over functioning, and at capacity may feel all too familiar. I offer a safe, supportive space to breathe, reflect, and begin healing.

Although I spend a lot of time conducting psychological assessments, I truly enjoy the time I get to spend as a therapist walking through life with my clients. At one point in time or another, all of us struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, big-emotions and overall ineffectiveness in our life. In therapy, we not only spend time discussing ongoing issues and current difficulties, but we also focus on themes in our lives and the ways that our thinking patterns can inhibit our ability to create the unique life that we want to live.

Growing the life you want We have one life that we get to live, and so we only have one chance to find and create meaning for our lives. So often we can be hindered by our fears and from the painful points of resistance that we have encountered along the way. Those points of struggle look different for each person, and many times can stay with us for a long time. But we can grow and recover, and taking the time to slow down and care for ourselves is a liberating experience.

Are you struggling with feelings of not being enough, being too much, insecurity in relationships, rejection sensitivity, and fear of abandonment? Did you grow up in a dysfunctional family atmosphere? Did trauma(s) during crucial developmental years affect the way you connect with yourself and others? I focus on working with adults who are coping with the effects of developmental/complex PTSD (cPTSD) and/or growing up in a dysfunctional family environment. Trauma is an experience that overwhelms our ability to cope. In relationships a rupture (physical or emotional) in our primary attachment can cause traumatic effects.

I enjoy working with clients that are ready to explore their mental health. I have a strong belief that people can change and grow through any troubles they may have faced, or are facing. Sometimes, we just need a little help. That is where I get to play my part in a client's life.
I have a passion for working with clients who are committed to their journey and are ready to challenge the things that may be holding them back. Clients who are looking for a teammate, rather than someone to tell them how to live their lives, are going to find that I am a good fit for them.

Hello there, I’m Jude (she/they), a queer, trans, second-generation Filipina-American. I walk with children, teens, and adults who are learning to live beneath the weight of expectation, identity, and history. My ideal client is someone who has spent years being strong, holding things together while quietly unraveling inside. They may be queer, trans, a person of color, or someone carrying stories of survival and silence, stories that have shaped the way they move through the world. They come to therapy longing for rest, for softness, for a space that doesn’t ask them to translate who they are.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
