At one point in time or another, all of us struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, big-emotions and overall ineffectiveness in our life.
I have spent much of my 17 years of clinical practice in the child welfare system working with at-risk children and adults involved with Children's Protective Services. However, my training throughout my doctoral program focused on ADHD evaluations and treating anxiety, as well as High Conflict Divorce, Divorce Collaboration, and Marriage Therapy.

Maybe you are someone who is hard on yourself, tends to overthink relationships or interactions, struggles with anxiety, or often puts others’ needs before your own.
I strive to create a therapy space that feels warm, compassionate, and emotionally safe. I view therapy as a collaborative process rooted in curiosity, trust, and connection. Rather than telling you what to do, I work to help you better understand yourself, your emotions, and your relationships.

We all go through valleys and peaks in our lives. Sometimes the only way to get out of a deep pit is through grasping the hand that is there to help you. I have seen personally what can happen with the help of someone who offers unconditional support and encouragement, moving one out of the darkness and into the light. I am particularly passionate about holistic health and wellness and believe we are all on a journey toward a more vibrant life. In addition to my Master's Degree in Social Work, I have completed a certificate through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and enjoy bringing all areas of wellness in greater focus.

Life happens to each and every one of us. Sometimes life struggles are too much and we need help in our life journey. I believe counseling is a wonderful way to get the help that you need when the journey of life is just too much. I will meet you where you are and provide an atmosphere to be heard and to heal. I know that each person has their own unique story to share and I will provide you with the encouragement and guidance that therapy offers.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
