I am a clinical behavioral therapist with a private practice focusing mainly on families. For nearly 30 years, I have enjoyed working with children and using various play techniques to explore the lagging skills which have led to strong responses, behaviors and stressors to your family life. I am shifting my practice to now focus more on helping parents with their children to enable peace and calm in the home. I am also available to adults to work on topics unrelated to parenting. I enjoy exploring individuals stressors and anxieties about life developments.

You’ve been feeling disconnected from your adopted child/ren. It’s been so exhausting that it’s led to burnout. You’ve even started to build resentment. You wish parenting wasn't so draining, impossible, and difficult. You pour everything into your kids, and it's never enough. You want the deep connection you always hoped for. Some days, you’re so angry and bitter because this is not what being a mom was supposed to be like and certainly not what you signed up for when you adopted. You long to feel joy and connection in parenting.

Hello! I’m so happy you’re here! Being human is not always easy, and, at times, navigating what life has to offer can feel complicated or overwhelming. Because of this, we all sometimes need some extra support, a listening-ear, or a safe space to just talk about everything and anything. I would love to work with you to build a safe, meaningful, and collaborative space to explore your thoughts and emotions while also helping you to develop new skills, understandings, and ways of healing.

Life can be hard, and for many, the last several years have been particularly hard. Sometimes it is traumatic and tragic, other times it's overwhelming and confusing, and sometimes it just feels plain blah. Over the years, counseling has played an important role in my own life, helping me navigate the ups and downs. In turn, I have had the chance to walk with people during some of the darkest and most challenging seasons of their lives. My hope is to continue to journey with others and be a healing presence in their lives.

Are you parenting a child with big emotions, intense behaviors, or complex needs?
Maybe your child is highly sensitive, neurodivergent, or adopted—and parenting right now feels more like surviving than thriving.
You might be working hard to reparent yourself while holding space for your child’s unique needs. If you’ve ever thought, “This isn’t what I expected,” you’re not alone.
You dreamed of connection, playfulness, and joy. Now you’re wondering how to get there—or if it’s even possible. The good news: it is. Growth and change are possible, and there’s always room for hope.

Whether you've faced painful experiences, are a family navigating the challenges of foster care or adoption, or a queer person seeking love and acceptance, I would be honored to support you.
I value working with a diverse range of individuals and am especially drawn to supporting trauma survivors in their late teens and twenties. I enjoy working with women during different life transitions, from pre-teen girls to women aging and growing into themselves during menopause. Often my clients are parents navigating an autism diagnosis of their child, youth struggling with executive functioning or school stress, late-diagnosed autistic women, or helping professionals (such as teachers, nurses)facing burnout, and adoptive families adjusting to complex dynamics. They often feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or exhausted from masking and over-functioning. They want practical tools, clarity, confidence, stronger relationships, relief, and to know they are not broken.

While my specialities are grief, relinquishment and adoption, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, I work with people with other needs also.
Working with individuals who are adopted is especially close to my heart because I was adopted at age 5 from Seoul, Korea. As adoptees, we have layers of experiences that contribute to questions of identity, belonging, relationships, and grief. I also advocate for adoptees by participating in community events that educate others about our experiences.

As a therapist, I endeavor to collaboratively create spaces that empower queerness, neurodiversity, sexual identities and experiences, disability, and marginalized individuals while analyzing and dismantling harmful power dynamics and limiting beliefs internalized from navigating everyday societal systems. I am dedicated to showing up to the therapeutic space we create together with authenticity, gentleness, empathy, and transparency.

Life comes with many challenges and complexities that can be difficult to navigate. As we have seen over the past few years, life throws us many curveballs, and sometimes we need extra support. My goal as a counselor is to create a safe, welcoming environment that allows you to feel comfortable yet empowered. My approach to therapy is holistic and trauma-informed to meet you where you are and understand what factors/influences may be present or important to you. Additionally, we will incorporate appropriate evidence-based practices (i.e. CBT, solution-focused, etc.) that would be most helpful to you and your goals for therapy.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
