You’re a little different. You’re seeking more out of life than mainstream society implies is possible. Perhaps you’ve always felt that there’s some piece missing but you can’t put your finger on it, or that you have a calling that you haven’t discovered yet. You feel things strongly. You may have been told that you feel things too much, or that you are too much. Maybe you’re looking for a better way to live with anxiety, depression, a trauma history, or an illness you can’t make sense of. Maybe you’re not sure what’s wrong, but you know things aren’t quite right. You wonder if there’s anyone else like you. I’m so glad you're here.

Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, or stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand? I've found that individuals who come to therapy for anxiety, depression, relationship stress or burnout, begin to notice that earlier life experiences, chronic stress, or relational wounds may still be shaping how they think, feel, and respond today. You do not need to label your experiences as “trauma” to begin therapy. Together, we explore what’s impacting you now and work toward greater emotional stability, clarity, and self-trust.

I believe in a non-judgmental, person-centered, positive approach in the counseling relationship, where the client feels comfortable enough to express their feelings and thoughts while examining factors which may be causing them pain, anxiety, or unhappiness. I also believe that individuals have the power within themselves to overcome these personal barriers to attain their full potential. My goal is to support you and give you tools to use along the way, and also in your future. There is light at the end of what may seem a dark tunnel, but together we will work to get you there.

I walk with children, teens, and adults who are learning to live beneath the weight of expectation, identity, and history.
My work lives where healing becomes a story again. With EMDR, Narrative Therapy, ACT, and harm-reduction, I walk beside you as you give language to what the world tried to quiet. Together we name what hurts, tend what endures, and write a new path for freedom, one built from breath, truth, and becoming.

As a wise young woman reminded me recently, "Sometimes, it hurts to be human." Often what brings someone to a therapist's office is the experience of suffering or ineffectiveness. What keeps someone coming back is relief from suffering and the gaining of insight, acceptance, hope and effective skills that add joy, meaning and purpose towards a life well lived. I embrace faith, recovery, self-care, family, resiliency, vulnerability, humility, being mindfully present, and radical acceptance of what is, in order to fortify a solid foundation for positive change on a path to both feeling better and doing better.

From personal & professional experience, the only way to fix something is to see it. There are many things in life we choose not to see, or we are so distracted/overwhelmed we cannot see them. However painful or ugly they are, they must be explored in order to figure out how we can make life better. I am here, as your mental health partner, to walk this path with you. I received my Master degree in Mental Health Counseling from Wayne State University. Over the years, I have had the most blessed opportunity to help my mental health partners find their magnifying glass and choose the tools, already within, to fine tune life’s issues.

We usually seek therapy for many different reasons. Yet we all tend to want the same thing; a better understanding of our life experiences. Therapy can help you gain a clearer understanding of your interpersonal relationships and a clearer intrapersonal understanding of yourself. My therapeutic orientation is largely humanistic in nature. What does that mean? That means that I come to you as my authentic, genuine, and imperfect self. I work to see your world as you see it through your eyes. I keep a lookout for blind spots that you might not be aware of and explore these with you to see if they are of any consequence.

I work with adults, adolescents and couples, all diagnoses, to help you express and understand yourself in a deeper way than ever before.
My experience has been that as insight into your conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings and behavior increases, symptoms and overall life functioning tend to improve, sometimes dramatically. These gains are attained by working in a state of caring and curiosity with patients as interesting, unique people who can heal with the proper help.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
