I have been practicing social work for the past 39 years with children, teens, and families.
Children have a wide variety of problems some are developmental, and some are situational. Children need to be heard. Children need to have fun while learning new skills. I specialize in helping children and teens reach their social-emotional and social-skill development.

By looking backward, I can begin to live forward by becoming who I really am. Attachment shapes behavior and thinking. Survival skills from earlier life become maladaptive barriers to growth. Addiction and mental health problems often reflect a False Self. If I have the courage to confront the masking qualities of this False Self, I am ready for change and to allow the True Self, my authentic and spiritual nature, to emerge. While we cannot make these changes alone, readiness is indicated by my willingness to engage beyond therapy in Twelve Step programs or other means of engaging with others.

People encounter many situations during their lives that have a long and lasting impact on how they respond, emotionally and behaviorally, to present day problems. Often there is no one to listen. I listen and help people untangle the knots in life that keep them from living up to their own expectations, potentials, and hopes.

You're here because something isn't working and you're ready for a change. Maybe you’ve spent years taking care of everyone else and are just now turning your attention inward. Or maybe you’ve started to realize that old pattern, rooted in past trauma, keep resurfacing, getting in the way of the life you want to live. You are ready to explore the impact of the past, break free from unhealthy cycles, and reconnect with your own voice. This work can be uncomfortable at times, but you won’t be doing it alone.

I have extensive experience addressing PTSD, vicarious trauma, mood/dissociative disorders, sexually reactive youth, and grief.
Healthy connections provide for relationships wherein we feel integrated, empowered, and validated. When these connections are damaged we can suffer physical pain, social isolation, instability and internal fragmentation. It’s at these times, a supportive advocate can assist in repairing damaged or lost connections through a therapeutic rapport. My work is done in relationship with you, exploring how stress, trauma, addiction or disease has impacted your connections and deciding which ones need to be repaired to restore balance to your life.

Are you the one others count on ? You push through, handle the pressure, and make it look easy. You take care of your team, your family, your responsibilities. You’re constantly striving—because that’s what’s expected. But beneath the surface, it’s a different story. Your body feels drained, but your mind never stops. You lie awake at night running through to-do lists, replaying conversations, or wondering if you’ve done enough. The pressure to perform, to please, to hold everything together—it’s relentless. And while you're surrounded by people, there’s a part of you that still feels alone.

Life has changed in big ways, and it’s not feeling how you hoped it would. You thought this season would bring happiness, but instead you feel anxious, overwhelmed, and unsure how to keep up. You know the doomscrolling and overthinking aren’t helping, but everything feels like too much. You’re terrified of failing but also have no idea where to start. You just need someone to point you in the right direction. That’s where I come in.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
