I believe progression towards healing is always possible. The ability to heal is not the problem. It is getting the right help and doing “the work” that creates healing. I love helping people understand their issues and how to heal or deal with them.

You're tired of being stuck. Stuck in a rut of the same old emotions and behaviors you've fought for so long. Maybe your past or painful memories are holding you back, or perhaps the accusing thoughts have become too heavy. You're not sure exactly how to get out or how to change, but you're ready for something different, and you're tired of fighting alone.

Life often contains unexpected and difficult challenges that lead to us grieving that life is not what we were hoping for or planned. These challenges can be situational or ongoing experiences. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, a significant life transition, relational struggles, questions of identity, persistent feelings of guilt, shame, or inadequacy, constant worries, or existential/spiritual doubts, we can be left feeling lost and unsure what to do next. When these occur it can be demoralizing and defeating, but also provide immense opportunity for growth. It is my goal to help each person navigate these times in life.

Helping individuals understand and manage their anger is what I have become known for in my community. With my guidance clients have developed the ability to control their anger in as little as 2- 4 sessions! Throughout the years I have learned that the techniques that I utilize for managing anger are equally effective in managing anxiety and stress. Using various modalities I treat clients with an array of other issues such as depression, trauma, anxiety, complex PTSD, to name a few. I have a very pragmatic approach and am confident that I can help.

My specialty is in treating sexual abuse, anxiety, trauma and PTSD effectively and efficiently. I'm trained in 3 evidence-based (validated by research) therapies for treating PTSD, and my goal is to help you find healing without wasting your time or money. During your first appointments, we'll determine the best plan for your therapy. Some approaches emphasize talking, while others have very little talking. Some use creative elements and story, while others work directly to treat your brain and nervous system. I also provide general counseling for depression, anxiety, and relationships.

Therapy, like any meaningful change, can feel intimidating. My hope for you is that together, we can uncover what the best version of your life. We begin with radical acceptance — meeting ourselves exactly where we are — and from there, we explore where the road may lead.

You are worthy. But what about in your eyes? You think no one gets you; no one can help? You've tried; nothing works. Therapy is weak, pointless. I get it. Asking for help is hard. Change is scary. Plus, you're too broken. It feels impossible. Maybe people failed you. Sad? Lost? Alone? Who am I? Insecure? Anxiety? I'm a doctor with real world expertise who can help you - yes you. No issue is off limits. Men stuff? Sex/Sexuality? LGBTQ+? Relationships? Family/Parenting? Teen life? Legal? Drugs? Self-esteem? High achiever? Sports? I am NOT boring, conventional, or stuffy. I might laugh, swear, or cry. I'm real. Let's triumph together!

I believe in a Client-centered, Cognitive-Behavioral approach with an emphasis on personal responsibility, accountability, and ownership of problem solving to bring about personal change. I specifically use the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model. The goal of ACT is acceptance of what is out of personal control, and a commitment to action for life improvement and enrichment. Additionally, mindfulness training including meditation, relaxation, and guided imagery can be used for therapeutic intervention.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
