We all want to live our best life, but sometimes anxiety, depression, or just the “stuff” in life gets in the way. Maybe you feel stuck in a job, relationship, or situation that just doesn’t bring you joy anymore. Maybe you get so worried about making a wrong choice that it's hard to make a choice at all. We all feel a little lost sometimes and just don’t know where to go from here, how to make our dreams a reality, how to feel fulfilled, how to have a purpose.

The teenage years are full of complex emotions, both the feel goods and the not-so-feel goods. Together, we will work through your current challenges, while also instilling confidence and excitement for life! Feeling overwhelmed, insecure or mentally exhausted from your inner critic? I've been there. But, we can challenge your stressors with healthy coping and meaningful goal-setting. Of course all of your emotions are valid, but some behaviors and habits may need some fine-tuning. These behavior changes will instill calm, kindness and creative problem-solving. The more you learn to self-regulate, the more resilient you become!

My practice is currently full. Please email me if you are interested in beginning services in the Fall of 2024. I love working with people who are seeking growth and self-understanding. Therapy is hard work. It pushes us to see things in new ways and to explore feelings and behavior patterns. And, hopefully, it leads to feeling healthier and more connected to ourselves, our needs, and in our relationships. I approach therapy from a holistic and integrative perspective--I believe well-being is influenced and impacted by many factors including physical health, genetics, personality, and life experiences.

My background is in science, education, and art. I believe in the power of creativity and communication to solve complex problems. Sometimes we just need a teammate to help us process what we're going through and make a plan for moving forward. I see individual adults with a variety of mental health concerns like panic disorder, grief, and depression.

In today's world, parenting is challenging. In many cases, we are raising our children with little support from others. And, our children are faced with a great deal of stress and outside influence such as social media, high education standards, and reduced opportunity for success after graduation. As a parent, you want your children to be happy, self-confident, and contributing members of society.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
