Looking for a therapist who isn’t afraid to be creative? Who can help you navigate heavy, complicated, sticky life stuff? At many of life’s crossroads, we are forced to question who we are and what we believe in. This can be one of life’s most exciting pursuits (even though it's often scary). I work with teens and adults who are in states of grief and loss, are struggling with anxiety or depression, or trying to explore their identity or spirituality . With a background in psychology and the arts I like taking a creative approach in therapy.

I provide counseling & psychotherapy to individuals & couples that is client-focused, culturally sensitive, and contextually relevant to you. Whether you are dealing with depression or anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief & loss, or poor self-worth, you will have your "own space" here. We may be a good fit if you say 'yes' to any of the following: Are you struggling to get over something that happened in your past? Do you have a hard time believing that you are enough? Are you (or someone you love) in a transition regarding spirituality , sexuality, or gender? Were you taught that sex is bad or dirty? Do you have sexual thoughts, behaviors, or desires that you are embarrassed about or afraid of? Body image and self esteem getting in the way of your relationships?

I specialize in racial identity, adoption, LGBTQ+, social justice, and spirituality .
Often times, we get stuck in unhealthy relational patterns that impact our mood and sense of self. We fear disconnection, rejection, and loneliness. We get lost in how to acknowledge and express our needs, understand our roles, set boundaries with others, and feel safe and secure in ourselves. What we desire is to be heard and valued by others. What we need are deeper understanding and tools to help cope with life challenges.

Hello! I view each person (or couple) as unique and autonomous. I believe everyone has a story of where they have been, where they are, and where they are hoping to go. These stories are complex and I believe everyone has biological, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. I like to work with clients to understand how they can get those met in healthy ways and how they can navigate this journey we call life. I also enjoy setting goals with my clients. It's through setting and achieving goals, that you will feel you're getting the most out of our time together.

Flipping through the latest Netflix releases, you search endlessly for the next "binge-worthy" series to numb you out for the rest of the weekend. This has been your default for far too long. You know all of the things you are “supposed” to be doing. You’ve tried meditation, yoga, time in nature, but you feel stuck in your head and unable to move forward in your life. You’ve had glimmers of the life you want before, but it always seems just out of reach.

In my practice, I recognize that as people we have many different emotions and experiences that drive us. Sometimes we do not understand what we are feeling, why we are feeling it, and why we are responding the way that we are. That is why I am passionate about helping my clients create a better understanding of themselves that creates a positive change to bring healing.

If you're reading this, I suspect you've had more than your fair share of sorrow, fear, and hurt. Maybe you feel like something's missing or broken inside and you just want to get back to feeling like yourself. Or you're looking for a place to sort through the tangled mess of emotions and wounds and painful memories from your past - the ones that still seem to sting like they just happened yesterday. Maybe you're stuck in a self-destructive cycle of self-loathing, numbing, and shame. Or you're stressed out and overwhelmed - on the verge of giving up. Whatever it is that you're facing, please know - you don't have to face it alone.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
