I have seen people struggle for years with depression and/or anxiety caused by negative thoughts we have about ourselves from things we have been through in life, some things big and bad, others unintentional or seemingly benign. While we all experience challenges in life, you don't deserve to suffer and I can/want to help you find that relief. Medication helps, but is not the answer to long term recovery. Regular talk therapy can also be helpful, but often is not effective for recovery. EMDR therapy has been the most hopeful service for long term recovery I have found and the benefits can be physiologically understood.

You work hard, but can't shake feeling that you're not good enough. You feel tense or overwhelmed & wish you could just escape sometimes. You know your stressed, but don't know how to relax, self-care, or come down from it. Maybe you push down emotions to caretake others, but desperately want your own support. Or you've been discouraged by past talk therapy & seek a new approach. You want to know how to succcesfully ride the waves of stress & emotion in life. Rather than chaos or disconnection from your sense of self, purpose, needs, body, or spirit, you want to feel whole, energized, rested, & present to handle whatever comes.

Most of us act with the best of intentions and don’t always get the results we were expecting. As a counselor, my role is not to tell a client what to do, but rather to help clients examine what their goals are, different ways goals can be achieved, and to provide supportive and honest feedback through a therapeutic relationship. I have lived in and around very diverse communities throughout my life, and I take pride in understanding and honoring everyone’s unique culture and beliefs.

Research shows that joy is the hardest human emotion to truly experience. Challenges with depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, interpersonal crisis, relationships or many other things, hold us back from fully experiencing these moments of joy in life. Whenever you may be at in your journey, your choice in seeking help is one of bravery. My goal is to partner with you to better understand your present circumstances, create meaningful goals and continue to provide support and hope to you along the way.

I like to the heart of the matter quickly and then work with my clients to co-creative solutions tailored to their specific needs. My clients describe being in therapy with me as being involved in 'deeper work.' The deeper work may be related to the past, but it also could be doing a deeper dive into your current life and finding healthier ways to cope. I am trained in leadership assessment and coaching and I consult with family-owned businesses.

Hello. I'm looking forward to being a part of your journey toward happiness and health. In the Great Psychotherapy Debate (Wampold, 2001), studies demonstrated that if there are two groups of people with similar problems, those who receive counseling will be better off than 79% of those who do not receive counseling. Counseling can bring relief, resolution, clarity, freedom, or help you overcome a challenge. My counseling style is encouraging, empowering, nonjudgmental, and thorough. I am trained in many different approaches to the counseling process and I will work to customize a plan that works for you.

Taking New Clients! — It takes a lot of courage and strength to reach out in a time of need and it says a lot about you that you have decided to seek help. If you choose to work with me, I promise to be patient with you as you address the challenges in your life. My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which changes negative patterns of thinking and creates more positive, true and helpful thoughts. CBT helps individuals understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings and actions and is the most common form of therapy. It is has proven to bring relief to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
