Making the client feel comfortable is of top importance to me so I have found that expressive arts, play therapy , and other useful activities can help ease the stress of talking to a stranger.
We find ourselves traveling down the same roads all the time, same route to work, school, and even family and friends' houses. Sometimes we become so used to the way we are living that change is often difficult to achieve. I believe this is because we are stuck in ways of thinking because we have done it for as long as we can remember. "That's just the way I am." If you are looking to find a new way of doing things because you are unsatisfied or stuck in a rut, I would love to help you navigate change.

As Fred Rogers said, “ Play is really the work of childhood.
Being a child in today’s changing world is not easy, and parenting our children through the struggles they are facing can make us feel inadequate, helpless, and unsure. How do we support our children navigating through anxiety, depression, school issues, troubles with peers, grief and loss...all complicated by the pandemic? Sometimes, kids and families need extra support, and there is no shame in seeking support and help for our kids as they journey through life. Quite the opposite...doing so can provide them with the tools and coping skills they need to in order to tackle whatever they are experiencing, now and in the future.

I utilize a blend of traditional talk therapy, art and play therapy techniques, and other active and creative interventions.
I believe that relationships are at the core of any effective therapy. It is important to me that the children and families I work with feel heard and respected. I am flexible in my approaches and how I deliver therapy. This allows me to be able to focus on the strengths of the child and family. I utilize interests, abilities, and passions to provide services that are engaging, comfortable, and impactful. I believe that children and adolescents thrive best in therapy when they are allowed to express themselves in the way that is most natural for them.

I utilize solution focus, DBT, Play therapy , art therapy, and Narrative therapy.
Being heard and validated are two of the most powerful avenues to feeling a sense of belonging and worth. Unfortunately, we run into situations in life that shut us down, tell us our life experience doesn't count, and we leave those situations feeling empty and uncertain about what we've done wrong. Through therapy, we learn to find ourselves through our values and we learn new skills to navigate the hills and valleys of life so that when those situations come up, we can come out of them stronger and more sure of ourselves. I look forward to walking that path alongside you while you discover how you can have a full life and thrive.

I have trained extensively over the years in attachment, play therapy , FASD, and Theraplay.
I am a clinical behavioral therapist with a private practice focusing mainly on children and families. I enjoy working with children and use various play techniques to explore the lagging skills which may have developed strong responses and behaviors to stressors in your child. There are many instances in which I will accept the parent as client to address behaviors in the home. I work with siblings when appropriate and have worked with clients ages 4-adulthood.

My goal as your therapist is to support and empower you toward your goals and promote healing. I believe in listening to your story, helping you uncover your priorities, and offering the tools to help you decide next steps. This may involve utilizing the healing power of exercise, art, or play ; it may also involve processing your thoughts on a deeper level verbally or through writing. I believe optimal health encompasses the whole person physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and creatively. I see all these areas as connected. Because every person is unique, I will tailor our time to your individual needs and interests.

I have experience using art, music, and play therapy along with talk therapy to process thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
I value every encounter with an individual. I am grateful to be in a field, as a Therapist, where I can enjoy divine connections daily - thanks to the incredible courage of people. Specifically, thanks to a “yes” to the journey of growth, healing, and one's readiness to get "unstuck." Although I believe that the therapy office is a place where much of an individual’s healing and recovery from life challenges takes place, I also understand that the real tests happen outside of those four walls. I want to help you to prepare for those tests, cope, build healthy relationships, and affirm yourself in the positive.

I maintain membership with APT/MiAPT (Association for Play Therapy ) and EMDRIA (EMDR International Association).
My passion is to walk alongside those seeking support and help them on their journey. Many people are experiencing overwhelming thoughts and emotions they are not used to due to recent global events. Some people seek counseling to learn new skills and gain insight. Some seek to integrate their faith with the counseling process. Most people seek a warm and safe environment for their voice to be heard. I provide professional counseling from a Biblical framework with respect and compassion for each client and their own life stories. Play Therapy

Who is play therapy for?

Play therapy is generally targeted to children between the ages of 3 and 11 who have social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. Play therapy has also been found helpful for children who have experienced physical or emotional abuse or witnessed atrocities. Play therapy is also often recommended for children who are undergoing major medical procedures or who are suffering from chronic illness; many children’s hospitals are equipped to offer play therapy on-site. Play therapy is also sometimes used for adults; creative writing, music, and art are expressive forms that can all be adapted for therapeutic purposes.

Why do people need play therapy?

Children often do not have the language skills or words to know or to express what is troubling them. Yet they often spontaneously draw or use playthings to depict scenarios that reflect problems in their everyday life. Play therapy provides children with an array of objects and play situations to act out their feelings or experiences so that therapists can get a clear picture of what children might be struggling with and help them find solutions. In addition, play therapists are skilled at helping children understand their inner experience and find words for them, necessary steps toward helping children learn to control their own behavior and come up with solutions to problems they encounter.

What happens in play therapy?

A child enters a comfortable playroom where they are free to choose the objects they want to play with. The play therapist will typically observe how they play with the toys—whether a sandbox, puppets, dolls and action figures, trucks, costumes, drawing and painting materials, or more—because such play provides clues to a child’s family and social relationships, difficulties they are encountering in the world, and what going on inside themselves. Sometimes the therapist may ask the child to use the play objects to tell a story about their family. Using the same instruments of play, therapists can help children discover more advantageous ways of thinking and behaving.

What kinds of problems do play therapists treat?

Play therapy can help children who display destructive or self-destructive impulses; children who seem angry, sad, or fearful; children who experience frequent social, emotional, family, or school difficulty. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, who are regularly exposed to family conflict, or who have been physically or emotionally abused. Play therapy can help children who are perpetrators of bullying as well as those who are targets of bullying. It helps children learn to identify their feelings, to express them in constructive ways, and to regulate them so they can get on with the business of development.

How long does play therapy last?

Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and they usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Each session is tailored to the individual child and the kinds of problems they are struggling with. Play that is highly repetitive often indicates a problem requiring further exploration. Therapists typically measure progress through session-to-session changes in play behavior.
