I have been inspired by my own journey and those of my clients to receive additional certifications in several different modalities: NARM-level 1 APSATS informed Gottman - level 1 Nidra Yoga Meditation, Deceptive Sexuality and Trauma (starting in September, 2022), and
betrayal
trauma.
I have always found myself drawn to peoples' stories and the deeper levels of story that most of us share with very few people if anyone. The story or stories that have formed belief systems, how someone views themselves, and how they form and maintain relationships. The draw to stories led me to my own healing journey. The healing journey propelled me to a place where I can walk with others in their journey from a place of experience and now healing. The saying that goes something like, this is what I was made for, is a fitting statement.

After the fresh passion of a new or developing relationship cools, partners in marriages and committed relationships often find they experience a distancing from one another. Often this distancing results in anger and resentment toward partners. Problems which were once minor irritants now seem to be major issues which seem to always be a source of conflict and anger, or may be avoided entirely for fear of conflict. In counseling couples and families using the Gottman method, my passion is helping my clients transform their relationships and gain a new sense of optimism in their relational pursuits.

If you are here, I imagine that people whom you’ve naturally turned to for care and protection, have hurt or neglected you in some way. Or maybe you have found yourself unable to honor the commitments and promises that you have made to yourself or those whom you love. It takes time and patience to allow the reality behind your symptoms to reveal themselves. On the outside people may see the product of your emotional brain hijacking your life. Every new encounter seems to be contaminated by the past. However, on the inside there is a story of unresolved pain that is leaving you feeling powerless, alone, guilty, or not enough.

Hello! I’m a licensed clinical social worker with 30+ years of experience. I have worked in school social work, foster care, adoption, adolescent residential treatment, crisis assessment at Pine Rest Hospital, and outpatient treatment. I have been in private practice for 14 years. It is my privilege to listen to, and be with, people in their stories. Making sense of our narrative is a fundamental component to a healthy mind and spirit. And making peace with our perfectly imperfect, and unique version of humanity is essential for our emotional life and our thought space. It would be my privilege to hear your story. Peace, Amy

Infidelity Therapists
How does therapy for infidelity work?
A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.
How long does therapy for infidelity take?
Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.
How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?
When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.
How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?
Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
