My typical clients are those who are experiencing a variety of personal concerns, such as healing from traumatic experiences, working through relationship problems or family stress, grappling with negative experiences from a religious community, coming to terms with identity issues or mental health concerns, engaged in adoption or foster care, and much more.

Finding the right therapist to guide you through a particular setback, conflict or crisis along life's journey can be a daunting process....I know. Being a psychologist for 30 years and having been involved in hundreds of hours of my own personal therapy during my doctoral training, I understand the importance of the right client/therapist match. Successful outcomes are more promising when one feels comfortable, safe and confident with a competent experienced professional. Selecting a therapist should not be an impulsive decision so take your time and be particular since you are about to invest time, finances and trust.

Everyone one of us wants our one life to be the best we can have. We want to experience as much happiness as we possibly can. We want good emotional health in our life. Talking with someone/therapy is something we can utilize to make us happier. I know this personally from talking with someone else/attending therapy and from being a therapist. My approach as a therapist is that you and I will join together, working for the goal(s) you have for yourself.

You deserve to live a life that leaves you excited to wake up every morning. I believe one of the bravest things you can do to achieve that is to understand your own story. Life is too short for our lives to be consumed by bad relationships, holding grudges, and letting trauma take over our lives. You deserve to be free from emotional pain as well as finding your purpose and meaning in your life. I will walk right next to you to help lift heavy weights and burdens from your shoulders. You do not have to walk this journey alone.

Life is difficult. So is therapy. With the right fit and some effort, neither has to be. My hope is to help you with your goals. Whether that is to feel better (less depressed, anxious or angry), improve your relationships (with your spouse, parent, child, etc.), change your behaviors (substance use, self harm, avoidance), or something else.

Cigna and Evernorth Therapists
Cigna and its healthcare division Evernorth provide behavioral health coverage though managed care plans and Medicare Advantage plans. Outside the U.S., Cigna provides insurance through Cigna Global Health Benefits.

Cigna and Evernorth HMO plans only cover services from in-network providers and require a referral from your primary care physician. EPO plans also utilize in-network providers but generally do not require a PCP referral. PPO plans offer the most flexibility and a larger network of providers, and may include some out of network benefits.

Occasionally Cigna or Evernorth Therapists in Grand Rapids will only accept a limited number of in-network insurance patients in their practice, so it's important to check if your plan is accepted when you book a consultation.

Based in Connecticut, Cigna insures 180 million people in more than 30 countries around the world. Cigna rebraded its health services division as Evernorth in September 2021.

Here’s a link to more information on how insurance works to cover behavioral health benefits.
