Not feel like yourself? Tired of overthinking? Feel like stress is taking a toll on your life?
Anxiety
and depression affect most people at some point during their lifetime, the pandemic has likely increased the statistic exponentially. Counseling is a great place to have an unbiased support person who only wants you to succeed, whether that's by learning new coping skills, talking through a difficult decision, learning about the brain or new psychology research to help you function better.

Life can be challenging for all of us at times. Maybe a new challenge or crisis has arisen, or maybe you want to address a problem you've carried for years. It can be hard, and takes strength, to acknowledge when you're stuck and need help dealing with painful feelings or self-defeating behaviors. I see adults and teens with a range of difficulties and goals, working together to understand and ease sorrow,
anxiety
, or anger; explore or (re-)discover parts of themselves; address problems in work, school, or relationships; heal from trauma; resolve ongoing battles with their mind or body; and/or live with greater joy and satisfaction.

I specialize in helping those with depression,
anxiety
, relationship issues, grief/loss, and pregnancy-related concerns.
The search for a therapist can be overwhelming, but it’s a courageous first step toward improving your life and overall well-being. Often, people know they are not happy, but they need some help to discover why. Since the success of therapy largely depends on how you feel toward your therapist, I strive to create an environment that feels nonjudgmental, safe, and comfortable. I work alongside you in the therapy, guiding you to your own conclusions with thought-provoking questions and comments, rather than telling you what decisions are best for you. Working in that manner helps build confidence in yourself and your decisions.

anxiety
, stress, or not living your best life. I will support you in facing adversity and reclaiming your power of self-love. Taking this step towards therapy is commendable. At 1 Verse Counseling and Consulting we believe you deserve to be "Mentally Well" 1 Verse at a time!

If you’re dealing with
anxiety
and depression, you might sometimes feel alone in your struggles. I’ve been there, and the truth is, so have many others! It’s my goal to provide a safe place for you to share what you’re experiencing, a place where you can express your feelings in an open environment without judgment. As a young college student facing
anxiety
, finding therapy was eye-opening for me. In fact, it led me to become a therapist myself: I wanted to help others see that they aren’t alone and that they have the ability to bring about real change in their lives.

I work well with clients seeking help for problems with
anxiety
and depression. Those referred to me with these issues find that symptomatically they are struggling with
panic
, sleep disturbances, worry thoughts, self-defeating thoughts/behaviors, eating disorders, addictions and unknowingly, at times, some of their difficulties have been attached to old trauma. Many people with these sorts of struggles find that this spills over into problems with relationships and/or functioning at work and school. Areas of intimacy, both emotional and sexual are important work also. I work with individuals, married couples, families, and groups.

I have training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) which provides me with a somatic (body) framework for working with
anxiety
and emotions.
Do you find yourself longing for a deeper connection with yourself and others? You want close relationships and yet these very relationships become a source of pain? Many people find their way to therapy feeling lost, confused, and alone. For me, a most valuable aspect of therapy is connecting with a caring other and being able to undo the loneliness that one feels in their experience. Feeling connected in therapy allows individuals to access important core emotions and gain a deeper sense of themselves. My goal is that people leave therapy with a renewed sense of vitality and a coherent narrative of who they are.

My clients say things like...I am overwhelmed with stress. My
anxiety
is out of control. Does depression ever get better? I want to die. How did my relationship end up here? When does the pain of loss stop? Why can't my kids, spouse, ex just cooperate? My teenager is out of control. My parents just don't get it! The flashbacks are real. Will it ever get any better? Real people. Real-life. Real issues. Talking to someone helps. That is why I am here.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
