I have worked with all manner of mental health issues in the past, with a special interest in transitions, grief , and loss .
I view life as a process of learning, about ourselves, the world, and our place in it. Challenges and difficulties arise in people's lives a various points, and for various reasons. These provide an opportunity for growth and change, either through adapting and overcoming our problems, or through learning something new. I focus on where each person is in their life without judgment, and works to facilitate growth and improvement in the situation through whatever means that particular person finds most effective.

There is nothing more disheartening than when loss , sadness, anxiety and life difficulties are the first thing you think of in the morning, and the last thing you think of before going to bed.
Everyone wants to live a life with self-compassion and strong connections to those they care about most, but sometimes we need some help along the way. Therapy can be intimidating, so my number one priority is to provide an environment of safety and trust. For me, the road to healing begins when we recognize that we are each our own worst critic, and that it is okay to not be perfect all the time. I strongly believe that therapy is a collaborative experience, and my main goal is for you to leave each session feeling uplifted, hopeful and one step closer to reaching your personal goals.

Is anxiety, grief , or past trauma beginning to affect every facet of your life? Are you feeling lonely and desperate to be understood? Maybe you are experiencing crippling physical symptoms: panic attacks, difficulty breathing, and racing thoughts. Perhaps you’re feeling the pressure from those around you to be “done” grieving, when in fact the loss you’ve experienced has changed you forever. If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community, the influence of your identity on your personal relationships can be especially hard. No matter what you are feeling today, one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief.

As a school social worker and educator, I have first-hand experience in helping people navigate the challenges of poverty, trauma, grief / loss , emotional and developmental disorders, and obtaining services appropriate to their needs.
In today's world of increased demands and stressors, difficult emotions and negative thought patterns can affect both mental and physical well-being. Our history of personal trauma and behavioral disorders can condition us into thinking we cannot move beyond our experiences, leaving us frozen in place. If you are staring down that first step forward, learn the skills to manage the feelings of anxiety, anger, and sadness that hold you back from being your most resilient and accomplished self. As Maya Angelou famously wrote, "You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them."

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
