I am a fully licensed clinical social worker skilled to assist you with solving personal challenges from a holistic perspective. I offer a strength-based non-judgmental coaching approach when assisting individuals and families with delicate life concerns. Providing practical and usable tools to those who seek services helps seekers understand themselves, and know that they have power to create change in their lives.
I believe working closely with clients to help them reach their fullest potential through developing goals, creating healthy boundaries, and empowering you for change. I use evidence based cognitive behavioral methods to help you challenge everyday thinking that keeps you locked in self destructive or unhealthy patterns, which ultimately diminish quality of life and satisfaction of relationships. It is crucial for clients to understand their issues fully so corrective action and healing may happen. I meet my clients where they are in their lives and incorporate their culture, personal talents and strengths, religion, sexual orientation, and ethnic background into the counseling process for authentic exchange.
Starting therapy can be a daunting and overwhelming process. It is my goal to make it an easy and comfortable transition. I view therapy as a team approach including the child and/or adolescent, the family, community resources, and myself. We work together to best address the presenting challenge. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience working with children, adolescents, and families within a variety of therapeutic settings. I received my Master of Social Work from New York University and a Post Master's Degree from Loyola University.
My training and experience has allowed me to work with clients with an array of mental health concerns, as well as develop an understanding of the importance of mental health, social service, and quality customer service as it relates to one’s personal development.
As I like to tell my clients, anyone at any stage of their lives can benefit from therapy. Maybe you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or life stress, etc. Therapy helps by having someone to talk with, process the stress, and formulate a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs. Therapy works best as a collaborative process between the therapist and client, working together to achieve a positive and supportive workplace where mental and emotional health can thrive.
I help adolescents and adults who in some way feel broken connect with their inner wholeness. I can coach you through a career transition, help you process painful experiences, and help your teenager navigate the new challenges he or she faces. I can help you make sense of your past, live more joyfully in the present, and gain newfound hope for the future.

Dr. Tonya Griffith specializes in a Trauma-informed approach to treating children, adults, and families with the understanding that trauma occurs when dangerous traumatic events overwhelm a person's ability to cope. Some examples include abuse or neglect, violence, witnessing or experiencing sexual abuse, serious accidents, illness, or the loss of a loved one. Traumatic experiences have been linked to poor health outcomes and reduced quality of life. A trauma-informed approach is used when appropriate, to help individuals and families overcome the negative effects of trauma experienced in their lives.
It is my personal and professional desire to see each and every person succeed. Life has its way of knocking us down, but it is in the getting up where we find our greatest strength. It is my heart and my pleasure to aid people in the getting back up and finding their strength from within, to build on the life they want and greatly deserve. Therapeutic relationships can be the critical link to getting people through some of the toughest moments in their life, and it is my pleasure to support and serve those that need it most.
In therapy, I try to incorporate an understanding of the impact of culture on mental health using an intersectionist framework. Whether looking at the intersection of race and gender or sexual orientation, age, and religion, at the heart of each individual is a nexus of several different social identities, which are associated with different cultural norms. At any given time, one or multiple identities may be made salient. These beliefs and values affect the expression of psychological distress, and therefore should be used to inform treatment.
My clients consist of children and families that have difficulties with emotional and behavioral problems. In which theses problems may be seen at home, school and the community. So it is ideal for me to be able to assist families with developing new plans, problem solve and work on building healthier attachment and relationships. Change can be difficult and good at the same time. Working on better managing a child behavioral and emotional concerns are my priority.
