I'm Julie, a clinical therapist that specializes in Anxiety, Trauma, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Grief & Ambiguous Loss. We know that adventures in life can bring challenges that are difficult or feel impossible to navigate. Because of this, we often avoid dealing with the stressors and teach our mind and our body to navigate through the distress, to the best of our ability. After all, things already can be so overwhelming, how can we consider adding one more thing requiring our attention? What if I told you, all you need to do is take the first step. That one step creates forward movement towards an improved sense of self.

As an experienced trauma therapist, I believe in giving you the practical truths that you need to hear and the skills you need to accomplish your goals.
You’re tired of letting these issues linger. There’s been numerous events over the years and it’s all built up. You're fed up with the anger, the alcohol use, the bad relationships, or the issues at work. You’re ready to stop the negative thinking and get better control of your anxiety. You're ready to get a game plan together and gain some perspective on things. But most of all, you’re ready to better understand yourself and make better choices.

Waitlist for new clients
In addition to 20+ years experience, I have specialized training in depression, anxiety & trauma.
I am not your typical nor traditional therapist! If you're looking for a therapist who is stuffy and uptight, or if you prefer clinical jargon and lots of big words, I am NOT the therapist for you. I’m the therapist who may show up wearing jeans and sandals one week and a long dress the next. I have tattoos and don’t try to hide them. I will call you on your crap when appropriate, and I might even swear while doing so. I support BLM, LGBTQIA+ and I believe in Science. I may not be a "typical" therapist, yet I am me & I am genuine. If you want to become the best YOU possible, give me a call! I know I can help.

As an experienced, trauma and anxiety therapist, I believe that laying a foundation of self-love along with building the insight and skills you need, can help you to weather any storm.
You’re tired of feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, and drained. You’re fed up with pretending everything is ok, when it’s not. You've had something happen recently that has brought it all up and all you know is that you’re ready to move on from feeling like this. You might have been considering therapy for a while but now you’re ready. Ready to understand why you feel the way that you do. Ready to spend less energy on your thoughts and feelings so you have more energy to put into your life and yourself. Most of all, you’re ready to get unstuck, decide what to do, and feel happier with yourself and your life.

As an experienced, trauma and anxiety therapist, I believe that no matter where you begin we have a chance to make a better ending for you.
Life just feels HEAVY. You're carrying all this fear, shame, and hurt. Outwardly, you seem like you have it figured out but deep down you're struggling just to get through each day. You're fed up with things feeling so hard and out of control all the time. You probably can’t even remember the last time everything didn’t feel so difficult. But one thing is for sure, you’re ready for relief. You’re ready to feel more confident, more energized, and to have some inner peace. But most of all you’re ready to feel like you have some control over your life again.

My trauma-conscious and life affirming approach integrates creative expression, somatic therapy, holistic healing, and storytelling to help you emotionally heal, cultivate meaningful relationships, and Live With JOY.
Is your "stuff" blocking your JOY??? I help professional women and men who despite having it all together on the outside, are struggling on the inside. Maybe you are struggling in a complicated relationship, be it with a friend, family, or lover? Or feeling like you have no purpose in life or aren't living abundantly? Or maybe you are dealing with emotional baggage that just won't go away.

I believe that with support and the right therapeutic relationship you can make the changes you want in your life. I am a Certified Sex Therapist and I attended the Sexual Health Certificate Program at the University of Michigan. I work with folks who want to fully experience sexual pleasure, but aren't sure how. This may be related to sexual pain, sexual trauma, or an upbringing lacking education about sexual health. My approach honors and addresses situations in the past, but also gives you ideas about how to feel better in the here and now.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
